Which can be fixed with the right "mods". There's plenty that make it where you dont drop everything when you die. Also, the walking speed wasn't as bad as it sounds, the world was much smaller compared to D2 so it's pretty proportional actually.

Also, I played single player when I was serious about playing. Battle.net was just full of hackers and PKers(not even legit PKers, but the kind that have hacks that kill you in one click and such.) Multiplayer in general was pretty flawed. There were no party options of any kind, meaning you get experience for what you kill no matter if you have someone with you or not. Not only that, but sorcerer spells and rogue's arrows damage not only monsters, but any people that get in the way, and that can be a real pain in the ass.
