"STAR WARS KID" SUES PALS

A teenager who has become famous over the internet for his unique interpretation of Star Wars' Darth Maul is suing his classmates.

The Canadian teenager has filed a £100,000 lawsuit against four of his peers for stealing a video clip of his light sabre acrobatics and posting it on the web.

In a lawsuit filed in Quebec, Ghyslain Raza - better known as the "Star Wars Kid" - claimed the unwanted publicity has left him mentally scarred.

The video may not not have the enormous budget of the other sci-fi collaborations or the backing of production team Lucas Arts but the action-filled instalment has attracted millions of fans worldwide.

Since the original "Star Wars Kid" appeared on the internet, 38 versions have been added by fans - one site even petitioned Star Wars writer and director George Lucas to give the teenager a role in the final episode of the saga.

However, Mr Raza has taken legal action against his classmates for stealing the video tape then downloading the extract onto a file-sharing system on the internet.

The clip features the 15-year-old twirling a golf ball retriever around as he tries to recreate the moves of the famous Star Wars character.

His lawyers say the extent of the exposure he has had to endure both at school and in public has distressed the teenager, resulting in psychiatric care.

Reports of the lawsuit first appeared in Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail.
