Well, if you don't supply enough voltage/amperage it simply won't work properly, if at all. If you put too much is might work for a short time, but it will definitely cause over-heating, etc. which causes the device to break down over time. I don't know how long it will take, but you are correct Smith. Amperage is the real damage producer though.
