Had the French and Indian war not occurred, the French would still be a threat to the British, and the policy of salutary neglect would likely have continued. Likewise, the lack of a great debt incurred due to the war would not have required the British to impose new acts on the colonists to raise revenue. If things had continued as they were before the French and Indian war, the Americans would likely not have had a real driving reason to revolt, since they initially had a strong attachment to Britain and the King.
