While he's spending his time trying idioticly to knock down a skyscraper, how is he gonna defend himself? And do you think Cloud would just stand there waiting for the skyscraper to hit him? No, he'd be moving around and trying to kill Ness.

It would be like trying to kill someone by chopping down a tree. Not too hard to move out of the way.
