No. I disliked FF7 as well (though not as much). I was hoping FF8 would be another FF6. It sucked, thereby making it NOT like FF6.

That, and I don't have the patience to sit there for hours to suck out a monster's Cures.

On an unrelated topic, does anyone else think that the name "Firaga" sucks compared to Fire 3? I LIKED Fire 3.
