The Fifth Element

Anyone seen it?

I watched it for the fourth time tonight, and I think it's still as good as the first time I saw it.

For those that haven't seen it, it's a Sci-Fi film set 300 years in the future in which evil returns in a physical form and threatens the whole of existence, leaving our band of merry heroes to save the Universe.

If you're thinking that it sounds a bit daft, it's because it is - one of the reasons people who dislike it dislike it is because it doesn't take itself seriously at all, which is what I like about it so much! :D

It stars Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Ian Holm, Gary Oldman and Chris Tucker.

Big badda boom!

ya ive seen it ... its pretty good

It is, rather. Particularly when you realise that it was made in 1997! I don't know if they used different techniques to other films from the period, but the special effects look less... bad than other films.

You know when you can blatantly tell that something's been filmed on a green screen and thrown in? I don't find that I get that type of feeling with TFE. Sure, it looks like the scenes that would be done by computers these days were tiny models that've been filmed, but at least it looks alright.

I've never even heard of it!
The last movie I watched was "The LEAGUE of Extraordinary Gentalmen".

This makes the movie at least worth watching:

It's not a bad movie either.

Multi-pass.

I'm always impressed by Jovovich's acting - the character of the character is played well, and she can rattle off the foreign language with incredible speed.

Apparently I broke a rule in here. Awesome! I guess it's like an easter egg.

I didn't care for her much in Resident Evil, but she was awesome in The Fifth Element.

I love it. Mom got rid of it while I was in California.

"Mostly set during the twenty-third century, the film's central plot involves the survival of humanity, which becomes the duty of a taxicab driver (and former special forces major) named Korben Dallas (Willis) when a young woman (Jovovich) falls into his taxicab. Korben than has to gather four stones before a dark planet that represents pure evil reaches Earth."

That's about it, aye. A bit more detailed than my description, but that's the general idea.

It's definitely worth a watch if you can find it.

!King_Amazon! 2009-08-14 04:32 PM

It's on television in the US a lot.

Lenny 2009-08-14 04:36 PM

It is? You lucky beggars!

I hadn't heard of it until a friend put it, with a few other films, on my pendrive for me - about six months ago!

Multi-pass!

Skurai 2009-08-14 05:08 PM

If I had my old job, I'd be able to get it for a discount, I bet... :(
