VCR as TV Tuner?
Hey does anybody know if I can use a VCR's RF coaxial input(cable) to output tv channels to the 3 RCA (yellow, white, red) ??
What I'm trying to do is connect the coaxial cable to the VCR and output the TV channels through the 3 RCA into a tv that has RCA input (lets say s-video & coax r broken) And if its possible, how do you change channels? with the vcr's remote? you just set the TV to receive from RCA input and the vcr acts as a tuner? |
You need an RF Modulator like this:
http://www.threedoubleyou.com/MERCURYRFMODCMP.jpg Where it says RF IN = (Satellite/Cable)'s RF Cable Where it says RF OUT = VCR's RF IN The 3x Composite Wires From Modulator to the TV Make sure the same channel on the modulator is the channel you have on the TV. Then just search the channels on the VCR like normal. |
I think thats to convert RCA to RF, i need RF to RCA
The problem is that I need to transfer cable tv to the device that has the RCA input without using a cablebox So basically i need to be able to: TV cable from the wall goes into (insert what i need here) and from (insert what i need here) to output the cableTV in RCA cables. Then i also need to be able to change channels via Infrared im trying to setup a locationfree base station to receive the TV channels through RCA because it does not have coaxial input, I could use a cablebox and just have it output the rca and plug that into the base station but that is not an option right now, so basically I need the baisc cable signal from the coaxial to be transferred to the base station through RCA cables, and be able to change channels with the Infrared blaster. |
So it's like. You need a cable that has one end coaxial and the other end RCA?

Yes, that should work if your VCR has a coaxial cable input and a composite output. Most VCRs have a built in tuner.
