I retract my previous opinion.

We need to put the time before new members can post back. I don't know how long it needs to be to keep these spammers away, but if possible maybe just 5-10 minutes, and possibly give new members a message letting them know why they can't post.

This problem is either a lot worse than I thought it was or it's getting a lot worse. This is nuts how much spam we're getting. Looking through the new posts is getting to be like sorting through all of the crap in my e-mail.

Talking about e-mails, I wonder if it's possible to put a Spam filter on the forums... something that takes into account the time the poster has been a member, and then scans the new thread they have posted for key things, such as medical drugs, porn sites, long lists of links... and so on.

And they are either automatically trashcanned, or sent to a new, no-postcount forum in which people can ridicule the adverts and advertisers.

In fact, not trashcanned because the filter is liable to make a mistake and trashcan a thread that is innocent. At least if it's put in a forum it can be taken out and put back in the original forum it was in.

Well, we're starting to get multiple-spaming users, so it wouldn't help against them anyway, since they make visits to re-spam us after their spam gets deleted, it would follow that they would wait to spam if needed. As for filters, there's a URL list method, but obviously, there's new URLs every day. Alternately, there's the number of links method, but many of the current spam is just one link.

!King_Amazon! 2006-12-15 11:29 AM

Could you possibly make it where nobody with under, say, 50 posts, can make a post that contains links at all?

Lenny 2006-12-15 11:43 AM

Some of the advertising doesn't have any links, though.

!King_Amazon! 2006-12-15 12:59 PM

The only advertisements I've seen without links are the ones where the mods removed the links. An advertisement out a link is pretty silly. Kinda like an infomercial without a phone number.

I had an idea that WW implemented. You shouldn't see spam anymore.

!King_Amazon! 2006-12-15 02:39 PM

Wanna share your idea with the class?

Atnas 2006-12-15 02:41 PM

Is it finding out where they are posting from and one of the mods flying over and ass-raping them silly?

I made spam invisible.

Lenny 2006-12-15 05:02 PM

But how's it done? What are the filters looking for?

WetWired 2006-12-15 05:04 PM

The filters are looking for spam

Atnas 2006-12-19 04:05 PM

How can the filters discern spam from ordinary bullshit threads?

Medieval Bob 2006-12-19 05:50 PM

The filters are sentient; they're alive. They grow and learn just like you and me. Well, like me at least.

Atnas 2006-12-19 05:59 PM

Ah. That's a scary but useful asset to give a computer. =|

WetWired 2006-12-19 08:27 PM

:haha: good one, Bob

Your post needed moderation, you spammer you.
