PS2 lawsuit???
 

I got this email today:
Anyone else get it, or is it just some hoax. There was no file attachments either.

IF YOU OWN A PS2, YOU COULD GET BENEFITS FROM THE SETTLEMENT.



A proposed settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit concerning the performance of the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system ("PS2"). You may be a member of the Class whose rights may be affected by this lawsuit. The sole purpose of this notice is to inform you of the lawsuit so that you may decide what steps to take in relation to it.

If the settlement is approved, Class Members who complete and return a Claim Form, on or before February 16, 2006, may be eligible to receive settlement benefits. The claim form may be accessed at www.PS2Settlement.com or obtained from the PS2 Settlement Administrator, c/o Rust Consulting, Inc., PO Box 1784, Faribault MN 55021-1784.

Whether you are entitled to benefits will depend upon which subclass you are in. You may also choose to exclude yourself from the settlement. There are deadlines associated with the choices you may make regarding the settlement, and the last day to submit completed claim forms, to object to the settlement or to opt out is February 16, 2006. Hooray for scumbag lawyers trying to make money by screwing companies over!

Looks mildly legit. Doesn't matter though. In any of the scenarios where you get something, (either a $42 repair, a free repair, or a free game) you have to present a receipt for the purchase of the PS2. Do you have your receipt?

How much are Plaintiffs’ Attorneys being paid?
It is up to the court to decide how much Plaintiffs’ Attorneys may be paid by SCEA for attorneys’ fees and expenses. SCEA will not oppose a request for up to $700,000 (U.S.) and Plaintiffs’ Attorneys have agreed not to ask the court for more than $1,500,000 (U.S.).

Apparently I'm elligible, but it said that the court dates are set for like the middle of next year. Sounds like a waste of time for $25.

I've played countless DVD's, nothing happened.

Money whores.

Maybe not to you, but it is very true that lots of people have had their PS2s screwed up because of it(including mine). It isn't as if they are making it up.

Ya I get plenty of disc read errors.

Why is it only ever America?!

Europeans have PS2's too, as do those in Asia, and Australia! Why don't we count?

And whatever happened about Sony being sued by the company who had originally pantented the Dual Shock controller system?

Most likely settled out of court.
