What a weird game. It confused my at first until I realised that the game title "Get my cursos" is actually what the thing does...

A trick for when he uses the bar in the middle of the screen:

If you right click, it'll bring up a menu. Then, he'll go after where your cursor was when you right clicked. If he gets it, you're SoL, but you can move around freely while the menu is up. So, if he brings that big ass bar up, and you know you're trapped, right click, move the mouse across it, then left click to lose the menu.

I just move the cursor to a top corner and leave it till the bar swings past.
