Can the DS Catch up with PSP?

Why yes, indeed, it can!

It seems that on the asian side of the world, a device named the 'Play-Yan' has been released. There are no current American/European release dates, but i'm guessing summer or before.

TOKYO--Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance SP owners who have the brand-new Play-Yan peripheral can start to use it to play minigames downloaded from Nintendo's Garage Games site. This is a fresh role for the Play-Yan, which was created as a movie- and music-playing adapter for the Nintendo game handhelds.

On Monday, Nintendo launched its Garage Games site, which is devoted to games that can be downloaded and used with the Play-Yan adapter. A total of 12 will be released, starting with Insect, which is available now. Gamers can expect one new game per week, capped by a 13th bonus one, Nintendo revealed this week.

Players must download each game onto a computer, then unpack the file, transfer it onto an SD card, and then insert the card into the Play-Yan. The games are in the ASF file format and will play like movies if run on a Windows-based PC.

Although the Play-Yan was officially released Monday, Nintendo has already discovered a bug. The adapter's left and right audio channels are reversed when players use headphones with the device. Because the Play-Yan is exclusively sold through the Nintendo site, the company has been able to contact all buyers, telling them they can return the device for a free replacement.

So far, it's just a Japanese peripheral, but Nintendo recently issued a trademark with American patent offices for a device called the "Nintendo V-Pocket". Most likely, the V-Pocket is the American name for the Play-Yan, and we'll be seeing it sometime around this summer.

I love the titles of these Japanese games: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/playan/garage/index.html

Seriously, IMO, if the DS will catch up with ANYTHING, it's not going to be the Play-Yan or the V-Pocket. The only way DS will win popularity over the PSP is with superior games (No hope with graphics so bring on those godly gameplay)

If we're talking about popularity, the PSP is the one that still needs to catch up. It's sold a lot less worldwide than the DS has.

Did you know you can jerk off by flexing your "penis muscles" a lot? That way D3V can both play Tony Hawk Xtreme Golf Carting 3 on his PSP, and satisfy himself.

The only reason it is like that is because the psp costs 100 dollars more than the DS. Most kids can't get their parents to buy it for them, people like me who are saving 300 of their OWN hard earned cash having to buy them are waiting for 300 or more games that'll convice to buy.

But NO, the DS will not catch the PSP because of their games alone.

Raziel 2005-04-02 01:09 AM

You're missing the point. The DS doesn't need to catch up. The PSP does. Nintendo is the current king of handhelds. Sony is the challenger.

D3V 2005-04-02 11:11 AM

PSP has already outsold in total sales than the DS.

DS Has no titles that anybody can get excited about coming up in the future, but for the PSP almost every game looks inviting.

D3V, you've lost this argument like...100 times already, just shut the fuck up.

What an unkiddy game

*blinks*

I honestly have no fucking words for this, D3V. You get dumber every single time you open your mouth.

Or, "Everytime you decide to hit the keys."

But it's true that Nintendo is King of the handhelds. How many have Sony made so far, eh?
