Text Based Role Playing?!?!?!

Hey, why don't we start a Text based role play on this forum. I participate in ones on other forums and this is one of the only ones that doesn't have any that is a game forum.

Just an idea so i would like to get some feedback please.

Tyrannicide 2004-01-20 07:48 PM

Why not??? I'v been to forums that ranged from photoshop stuff to text based to rpg maker.

!King_Amazon! 2004-01-20 07:53 PM

I was talking about the literature forum. This thread belongs in Forum Discussion.

Jessifer 2004-01-20 08:25 PM

Don't see why not. I probably wouldn't get involved with it, unless I was pressured to. I dun role play anymore. I even gave up my message board sim. :weird:

!King_Amazon! 2004-01-20 09:04 PM

You find yourself in front of a huge, wooden castle door, with steel bars over it and a large metal keyhole, much like the locked doors in a Zelda game.

You see an extremely large sign beside the door, almost as tall as the door itself, and 4 times as wide, standing on a single wooden stake. There are two paths leading west and east, parallel to the castle.

What do you do?

>open door

You attempt to open the door, ignoring the obvious Zelda keyhole, and find it locked. You feel you should've gone with your first impression of the door.

What do you do?

>read sign

You read the sign. The sign proudly says in 200-point Comic Sans MS font "This Door Is Locked!"

What would you do?

>eat sign

You can't eat that!

What would you do?

>fight sign

You ready your broadsword, and begin to engage the sign in combat. You get the first move!
You hit the sign for 4 damage.
You chopped the sign right on its wooden stake. The sign comes crashing down on top of you, killing you instantly.

GAME OVER

Gamespy forums has some really good text based D20 roleplaying.

I figure it's worth a try.

Tyrannicide 2004-01-21 01:54 PM

Yea, but i would like one on this site.

Give the RPG system a wait and we'll see what it can do. :)

Hades-Knight 2004-01-21 03:17 PM

The thing is you set rules at the biggining such as:

1) You can't control other peoples characters unless they give you permission.
2) You can't go around killing everybody.
3) You must follow the story and not make it go off track or anything inappropriate.

and so forth like that. So if u said u were god and killed everybody people would just ignore you and all ur post would be deleted by a mod. That is wut i would do if I was a mod and im sure others would aswell.

Generally there's a set system for calculations. Usually, someone (an admin or moderator) uses a random number generator to determine whether or not someone succeeds in an action and, where applicable, how well they do it.

!King_Amazon! 2004-01-21 05:25 PM

It's too much trouble to do something like this, it attracts little kids that are like "pmg pmg i pwnagize uu!!!!11" and it would cause a lot of people to complain about stuff.

Tyrannicide 2004-01-21 06:54 PM

Well, it was worth a try i guess. : ( ) {FUCK)

No, the people that are involved in the event say a fight will discuss it. something like PMing eachother or a seperate thread for the TBRPing discussions. A mod would just make sure people are following the rules and such. I could do it, I rp a lot.
