What is the difference between the athlon 64 fx-51 and the regular athlon 64 processor? My friends are saying that it is a marketing hype. Is that true? If not, which one is better and why.

FX-51 is 2.2 GHz, the original Athlon 64 is 2.0.

Both CPU's have a built in memory controller (which was previous on the motherboard) but the FX-51 is dual channel while the regular can only support single channel DDR. Downside to the FX-51 is that the dual channel memory must be ECC, which is 10-15% more expensive than normal ram. That type of ram is basically for servers and paranoiacs. It's memory error checking it not that useful for desktop use.

So if i was to get the regular athlon 64, is i that much worse then the fx-51?

I would wait until the next series of Athlon 64's is released that is dual channel and doesn't need ECC ram. (another half year or less?)

The fuck are you talking about? This is a thread about CPUs. I know perfectly well what DDR, ECC, PCI, AGP, etc, are, because my dad works as PC tech repair. If you stop talking out of your ass and begin to make sense, I'll give you permission to post in my presence again.

Why are you flaming? So what if you work at your dads PC tech repair, you probably sweep the floors. If I asked you how many pins a cpu had, you wouldn't know, if I asked you what slot that it'd go in, you wouldn't know.
