Cable Modems
Does the cable modem brand, change the speed of the modem? For instance if i got a no name brand modem with my isp for free, should i bother getting a 3com one for more?
|
I think you speed depends on the location of the holder. Obviously, the closer, the faster your ocnnection...
|
generally upload speeds depend on isp, because those are whast usually enforced/controlled most heavily, adn is also teh one u can uncap, but will definately and always get caught if u attempt it.
my cable gets 1 megaBYTE+ downloads and 100kilobytes/second+ uploads consistently. I live in jerzy, have optimum online cable service, adn have a motorola surfboard modem. my linksys router (wirelesss+ usb adapters) significanyl reduces m download speed per copmp to about 400 kb. |
Hmph... Not the way I understand things.
Though the cable company sells the Broadband at 1.5 Mbps, the actually download is capped at 400k. Sort of like when you are connected at 56k you don't download at 56k, more like 5kps. |
because maybe you are looking at 400k download, and then other 1100 mbps is upload+the sitance of the isp location of where the servers are+whether your cable tv effects it+whether downtime or uptime is and how much traffic is used under the isp in your area using the same server, tones of fators come into place when you think about it...

My motorola surfboard thinks it downloads at 100mbps, but according to online tests its around 3-4mbps my upload was around 200kbps though.. But that was before lynksys, now my shits worse than 56k...
