Punk

Okay, what do you guys believe about the whole "punk" fad, you know, avril, blink, anarchy, hot topic, that stuff? i wrote this post for a different message board to some guy so ill give you some parts of it because i dont feel like typing:

I noticed you said that punk originated form the ramones. Thats just blatantly not true. I dont see how people dont know this, but punk originated from Britain. You also say punk is the open rebellion of government. You are confusing the punk movement with Anarchy. And i use the term "movement" very loosley and for lack of better word because punk wasnt a movement at all. You do say that punk was a sub culture, but you treat it as a counter-culture. For example, i will now compare the hippie COUNTER-CULTURE to the punk SUBCULTURE. the hippies were openly against the government and expressed this through rallies, refusing to go to war, and the like. The punks were against reagan/thacher, but did not need to show this because while everyone worshipped them at the time, they blew em off. I agree with you about punk being dead and people actually following individualism, of course, i prefer the term, non-conformism.

ill post more when i see the replies

Punk is shit. Plain and simple. The old stuff, the new stuff, all of it. Listen to heavy metal. Absorb a few hours worth of In Flames and Nevermore and you'll be set for life.

InvaderJon 2003-02-06 09:08 PM

Do you know what the punk culture was? you must be one of those who thinks its only a music genre

Raziel 2003-02-07 12:51 AM

I don't give a rats ass what "punk culture" was or is today. It's a culture that spawned decades of horrid music. Worthless.

InvaderJon 2003-02-07 08:25 AM

If you truly don't care, then i would appreciate it if you didnt reply.

Raziel 2003-02-08 02:03 AM

A little sensitive about your "punk roots" there, Jon? You're one of those emo sissies I despise so much, aren't you?

Grav 2003-02-08 09:01 AM

The Ramones!!!

Hades-Knight 2003-02-08 01:45 PM

Punk= Heavy Metal but not heavy enough to be considered heavy metal

InvaderJon 2003-02-08 02:27 PM

Did i ever say i was emo? not i only do i not label myself, but if i did, it wouldnt be emo. Emo is for people who want to be punk, but dont have the guts to say they are punk, thereofre, they created emo. and knight, i agree with your definition of punk rock.

VirusNine 2003-02-13 11:32 PM

none of you guys know shit about the punk culture and or music so before you make yourselves look any more ignorant just shut the hell up.

Boy, you really showed them. Take a second, read what you posted. Could you please explain to me what they don't know that you do? Please do more then just say "shut the hell up". The fact is, you have made yourself look like you know nothing about the topic. Explain what EMO is if Jon didn't do it right. How would you classify punk-rock?

Just curious why you know so much more, and don't really feel like sharing it.

DaFrigginDoctah 2003-02-14 12:27 AM

I like punk, heavy metal, rock, and whatever else so long as it has a meaning.
My favorite band would be Metallica & System Of A Down. Their songs have meaning, they arent just a bunch of words that sprung into their head while taking their morning piss before a concert. If you listen to them you can actually understand what they are trying to say with them.

heavy metal is for those who need to reassure themselves about their heterosexuality.

Actually I believe that is rap what you are suggesting.
Heavy metal is about something entirely different. Try listening to some before describing it.

Ping, I would say someone with a Tenchi Muyo avatar has the least solid basis for accusing others of wavering in their heterosexual preferences.

Well it's a good thing you knew what the avatar was.

All Hail The New Flesh

I saw him mention the origin of his avatar on another thread. The only thing I know about the show is that's it's completely unwatchable.

You should try listening to some Strapping Young Lad, Grav. "All Hail The New Flesh" will put you in a coma.

DaFrigginDoctah 2003-02-16 01:00 AM

System of a Down & Metallica owns all of your suggestions Raz / Grav. Although I like the song Poison God Machine by Nevermore and a few others.

Anti-coma songs-

SOAD songs:
Sugar, Suggestions, Forest, Spiders

Metallica songs:
Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Devils Dance (Live version is the best), Until it Sleeps

Just some suggestions.
