New Harddisk Drives

Bigger, faster and lesser noise...

IBM, Maxtor and Lacie is coming with new harddisk, each
of them with their own special properties.

IBM with their "Deskstar 180GXP" have a capacy of 180
giga bytes. The new harddisk is also equiped with "fluid dynamic
bearing ( fdb )".
A technique with oil layer which makes the harddrive more quite.
Price: 370 US dollars

Maxtor have on the other hand released a new intern
drive with a rpm of 5400, known as "Maxtor 250GIG", with a
capacity of 250 giga bytes.

While Lacie is still making extern drives. They have reached
a storage capacy on amazing 500 giga bytes (!). They
call it "Big Disk". Its also a 5400 rpm drive, connected through
FireWire.
Lacies "Big Disk" price is 4 digit, around 1100 US dollars.

Really though, why the hell would someone need something that big? AS more technology comes, files are slowly being able to get compressed to smaller sizes, yet HDs get enormously bigger!

Hey, I'd get it, I jsut don't know how I would use up space on it! I guess it keeps the HD clean, faster, and more efficient. :)

5400RPM? Wtf is the point? Of course it's quieter! It's slow!

heh...i guess u could use for songs and stuff...and as certain files get compressed new files are released which are bigger. I never thought i'd need more than the 36 gigs i have now but im close to that and this is after deleting a lot of my movies...
