Suggest a Grafic Card

Hi folks.

Im going to buy a new grafic card since my old 1 is getting real old. My current one is Riva TNT2 M6, which is too slow now for the new games etc.

Im going to use it for gaming, watching movies and im going to use a tv as a screen/monitor as well.

In other words a alround card i guess?

So which one should i buy?
Maxium price is around 220 dollars.

If I was in your shoes, I'd go with the Radeon 9200. Nvidia has been having problems with their video cards, and has been writing their drivers to cheat (as in not render the whole scene) on benchmarks to cover it up.

I would go up 50 bucks and get a Radeon 9700 pro ($270), they just went down a huge amount with the release of the 9800 (they used to be like 450 I think).

Maybe try to sell your old one on ebay to make the difference? (After you get the new one running).

Try a Quadro Fx 2000, if that's a bit thick for your budget a wildcat, but that's just for me

Hades-Knight 2003-05-29 07:38 PM

OMFG you lucky ass mofos.........my vidoe card is also a TNT2 and it cannot longer run any games released since like directx 8.1

i foudnt hat at pricewatch.com the cheapest card you can get that can play all games goes for $40 (geforce 4 440 MX DDR 64MB) but i dont even have $40 =(

TacoX buy a gf4 ti and gimme 40 bucks ^^

Xenn 2003-05-29 07:43 PM

Whore yourself out for 40 bucks man, a graphics card is a MUST!

Randuin 2003-05-29 08:11 PM

Quadro fx 2000 is made by NVidia
And Wildcat I believe is made be 3dLabs
I forgot Radeon's high end card, but it's nothing comparing to Nvidia and 3dLab's

Xenn 2003-05-30 10:49 AM

Don't buy Nvidia garbage. Not only did they cheat their drivers to get higher 3dmark scores, but in a year or two ati will control the market, the only reason they don't now is because almost every has a geforce and is afraid to change brands.

Hades-Knight 2003-05-30 11:12 AM

I need 40 bucks man..........but i never get money from my parents........

I need yal to donate me some money so i can buy it

Mr.Lee 2003-05-30 11:52 AM

So generaly i should a buy a card from ATI ?

Mr.Lee 2003-05-30 12:01 PM

There is 2 cards on my mind:

"Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600PRO 128Mb DDR 8xAGP DVI Lite Retail"
"CREATIVE 3DBLASTER GEFORCE FX 5200 ULTRA 128MB TV"

Which one is better? Both price are around 200dollars.

Hades-Knight 2003-05-30 12:02 PM

The ATI card dont seems to have a Tv-Out :wierd:

WetWired 2003-05-30 12:22 PM

http://www.sapphiretech.com/media/9600/9600prolarge.jpg

It says TV-out on the bottom right corner of the box.
Also, the ATI model is clearly labeled as having TV-out.

Edit:
Hmm...that DVI lite appended to the name makes me suspicious, however. You should ask whoever you're getting the card from. As I said before, I recomend choosing ATI for the present.

Xenn 2003-05-30 12:24 PM

Well, I know the 9500/9700 series has tv-out, and the 9600 is a slightly less powerful version of the 9500, so I would just get a 9500 if you want tv-out. I still think 9700 is worth the money though.

EDIT: WW beat me to it.

Mr.Lee 2003-05-30 12:25 PM

Thx for clearing that out. Some stores is saying that this card dont have it.

So WW you think this card is a good one?

Mr.Lee 2003-05-30 12:26 PM

Xenn.... i dont have 270dollars.

If it doesn't have TV-out and you need it, then it's no good for you.
