Animation

I have been wanting to do a little bit of animation in my post-high school career, any programs that I can/should use to get started with? I mean I know of a few freebie programs that I can draw with, i'd like to go into the actual video section of animation, preferably flash. (.swf file extensions)

If you want to do flash, then I suggest... macromedia flash?
