Headphones

Something mantra and I have in common is that we both love hi-fidelity music.

My question is, does anyone else here have an unhealthy obsession with audio equipment and sound reproduction? I plan to spend entirely too much on headphones and related products this summer.

Also, if someone wants a suggestion on what headphones to get, I'll do my best.

Answer these questions for me when you post:

1) What's the most you could ever see yourself spending on headphones?

2) What do you use your headphones/speakers for?

I get my headphones at wal-mart.

And I'm not talking the pricy $30 wal-mart headphones. I'm talking the cheap ass $15 headphones they have.

Just curious, what's the most you'd ever spend on a pair?

!King_Amazon! 2007-04-24 03:35 PM

$15.00.

Have you ever listened to high quality headphones, though?

You're lucky. You should remain that way... before you get AudioDisease!

I spent 20 dollars on a headphone / mic combo but the headphone was for only one ear. I usually just use those earbuds that I can buy for 4-5 dollars. I don't listen to much stuff that would require headphoknes, i Usually just set it through my pc speakers.

Oh yeah I didn't mention mine are the headset kind, with mic built in. For $15.

I would so I am sorta a music man. I was in my School's tech crew as a sound man ffs.

I spent $80 on a pair of philips isolation headphones. I would prolly spend a good $100-200 in the future for a solid pair. Not just for using to listen to music, but because i'm a drummer and I need solid ones for playing/listening to music/band playing as well (would be my monitors sorta thing) and so forth. Mixing as well I may add.

Grav 2007-04-24 03:58 PM

What's the model of your current pair? Whats your setup? (Source/amp/etc)

Tyrannicide 2007-04-24 04:00 PM

I have the Philips SBC HN100

They are pretty good for what they do though. Right now, I have no mixer or anything.im at Uni, I have my comp lol. I don't have anything at home either, needed the money for Uni as well, so in the future I plan on getting a good mixer and so forth. Its a money issue at the moment for me.

I think I would rather upgrade or get a new drum set first to be honest. The one I have now is crap.

Trudat son.

I use a $30 plantronics headphone/mic combo. Construction is crap, but the frequency response is quite good. I'm on my second pair.

Willkillforfood 2007-04-24 07:51 PM

My onboard sound sucks balls so I can't use my mic ...so no headphones. I've gone through several pairs through stepping on them. About 10-15 bucks each.

Grav 2007-04-24 08:11 PM

What does your mic have to do with headphones?

MightyJoe 2007-04-24 08:12 PM

I just use the basic headphones, I think the set I've got now came free with my mp3 player. I'd love to get a surround sound set, however my room really isn't advantagous for such right now. But once I'm on my own I plan on setting up a full surrond sound for my tv.

Grav 2007-04-24 08:24 PM

Headphones are a better price/performance ratio than speakers, FYI.

iceman887 2007-04-24 08:38 PM

i like big headphones too, i got these for 90 bucks

i like the ones that go over your ear because the small ones that just push against it hurt after awhile

Vollstrecker 2007-04-24 08:58 PM

Think I picked up a $10 set of Sony headphones at Walmart, and they're actually really nice. I love 'em, heh.

I doubt I'd spend more than $25 on a set of headphones, unless I'm getting something outlandish like RF Wireless Headphones or something crazy.
