Have you tried reformatting the USB drive?

I know a few years ago my USB drive did something similar, I picked up a program called "testdisk" which allowed me to reformaat it cuzz windows own formatter and even partition magic wouldnt recognize it.

Make sure your USB device isn't ahead of your Hard disk in the boot-up sequence in your BIOS.

Not sure why it would be though..

Unless it's plugged in at system startup, it shouldn't be in the BIOS boot sequence.

That's a peculiar problem. Have you tried it on another computer? What is the outcome?

My first thought would be that the usb drive is too small... unless he means an external drive? Hell, my computer wouldn't even let me put anything on a "geekstick"...

But yeah, like Goodlookinguy said, test it on another system...

ive tryed it on a different computer and it worked and its a flash drive not an external harddrive. why in hell would i have a external harddrive

I'd go ahead and try it on another system as my first option, then go from there.

Okay, this problem may be the result of malconfigured hardware. We had a few USB sockets short the motherboard because a couple of fools didn't hook it up correctly. It's a strange problem and the reason for the short I don't fully understand, but this may be the case.
