List of Ranks.

I'm talking Military, Army, and so on. I've heard things like "Commander" "Lt." "General" "Private", but I can't find a full list, in order of least important to most important (as in, position of power). Who knows why they don't seem to have much info. Anyway, post a list, if you can find any. Thank. Let's hope the Govt. doesn't shut us down, for it.

Reason: I want to pick out a nice, healthy title for myself. <3

You can just google "military ranks" you know.

Oh yeah, interesting sidenote: in 1976 George Washington was posthumously promoted to "General of the Armies of the United States" and cannot ever be outranked by any member of the U.S. military.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Armed_Forces

"The United States Armed Forces are the military forces of the United States. They consist of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard."

"Military" is just a broad term for the 5 branches. I'll go ahead and give you a short description of each before you ask what they are rather than reading for yourself.

Army - The United States Army is the branch of the United States armed forces responsible for land-based military operations. It is the largest and oldest established branch of the U.S. military, and is one of seven U.S. uniformed services. The modern Army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on 14 June 1775, before the establishment of the United States, to meet the demands of the American Revolutionary War. more

Navy - The United States Navy (USN) is the naval warfare service branch of the United States armed forces and one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. In August 2010, the U.S. Navy had 330,729 personnel on active duty and 102,923 in the Navy Reserve. It operates 289 ships in active service and more than 3,700 aircraft. The U.S. Navy is the largest in the world; its battle fleet tonnage is greater than that of the next 13 largest navies combined. The U.S. Navy also has the world's largest carrier fleet, with 11 in service and one under construction. more

Marines - The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States armed forces responsible for providing force projection from the sea, using the mobility of the United States Navy to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces. It is one of seven uniformed services of the United States. In the civilian leadership structure of the United States military, the Marine Corps is a component of the United States Department of the Navy, often working closely with U.S. naval forces for training, transportation, and logistic purposes; however, in the military leadership structure the Marine Corps is a separate branch. more

Air Force - The United States Air Force (USAF) is the lead aerial warfare and space warfare service branch of the United States armed forces and one of the American uniformed services. Initially part of the United States Army, the USAF was formed as a separate branch of the military on September 18, 1947 under the National Security Act of 1947. It is the most recent branch of the U.S. military to be formed. The USAF articulates its core functions in its 2010 Posture Statement as Nuclear Deterrence Operations, Special Operations, Air Superiority, Global Integrated ISR, Space Superiority, Command and Control, Cyberspace Superiority, Personnel Recovery, Global Precision Attack, Building Partnerships, Rapid Global Mobility and Agile Combat Support. more

Coast Guard - The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is a branch of the United States armed forces and one of seven uniformed services. The Coast Guard is a maritime, military, multi-mission service unique among the military branches for having a maritime law enforcement mission (with jurisdiction in both domestic and international waters) and a federal regulatory agency mission as part of its mission set. It operates under the Department of Homeland Security during peacetime, and can be transferred to the Department of the Navy by the President or Congress during time of war. more
