Bogus Obama Donors Surface

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/...n4504955.shtml

It seems likely that it's someone attempting to make Obama look bad, honestly. If I were going to donate money to someone with a fake name, I wouldn't make it gibberish unless I wanted it to be obvious that it was a fake name.

Anyway, I just had to share this little bit at least:

CBS News did not find any records of these last names, towns or employers anywhere else. Newsweek reported two questionable Obama donors over the weekend named “Doodad Pro” and “Good Will”.

The second paragraph entertains me. I have to ask myself, did they really research to see if there was a town of "Df" in Hawaii or "Dhff" in Florida or an employer named "CZXVC/ZXVZXV"? Maybe it's just me, but the second paragraph cracks me up for some reason. They're all serious about it.

Why does it matter who is giving who money?

There is a cap on individual donor contributions as well as some other bureaucracy

I doubt the research would take very long. Wouldn't they be able to find population figures in census data if the towns existed? One document, a simple search.

I realize that. That isn't my point. My point is, do they even NEED to search and see if there's a town called "Dhff" in Florida? It just seems silly.

Not as silly as they'd feel if they had to post a retraction.

I think I'd be willing to take a gamble and not double check that there's not a town called "Dhff" in Florida.

At the very least, if I did check, I don't think I'd mention that in the article like it's important information.
