Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
Well, what you've all been waiting for is finally in development. Check this site out for more info:
FF:Chronicles |
Not much information there, but it's a Final Fantasy game, so it shall be good.
|
Will it be on PS2 also?
|
No, of course not....Thies is a GCN exclusive....Remember a part of Square branched off to make games exclusively for the GCN and GBA...sux for all u Ps2 owners....
|
PS2 still owns over Gamecube... sorry. And you scared me there when u said FF: Chronicles... cuz thats out for PSOne and i thought they re-released it for GameCube... jeeze, dont scare me like that. And yes finally a good game for GameCube, now that looks like a game that might be worth buying for GameCube... and as i see it, FF11 still owns over FF Crystal Chronicles...

PS2 owns all. You want to hear the saddest things? GameCube and XBox have to say on the game box itself "GameCube Exclusive" or "XBox Exclusive" because they have so few exclusive titles! Does PS2 say this? nope, if they did it would be making fun of gamecube and xbox because too many of them would say this.
P.S - FuRy, you need to take linkin park outta your sig... I used to like them then once I listened to them a lot they started to suck ;) . |
too bad there was no ff chronicles dude.. its called Final Fantasy Tactics. and the ONLY advantage ps2 has over it is the amount of games they have, not to mention 98% of them are completely retarded. and ff chronicles only good game for cube? afraid not. resident evil, it might have came out for ps2 but ps2 cant handle the awesome graphics of it. mario sunshine is another good one. eternal darkness another good one. there is many good games coming out for the cube, not that there isnt for the ps2, but the ps2 has way more shitass ones coming out. sure i wouldnt mind a ps2, but i prefer my cube ANY day over that pos.

Nintendo has almost ALWAYS put the "Only for Nintendo" label on their exclusive games. Super Metroid was actually the first game they did that with, and they have continued doing it to this day. Microsoft saw it as a good marketing tool and ripped Nintendo off.
And I have to agree with Rabber on this one. I own a grand total of 2 PS2 games, in comparison with 8 GCN games. Nintendo just makes better product. The ONLY thing Sony has going for it is a number of 2nd party licenses. Square, Eidos and a few other companies like Rock Star are the only thing keeping PS2 on the market. Without those few licences (of which the TWO biggest are no longer exclusive to Sony) Playstation has no future. |
The fact is that - right now - Sony is winning the console war. PlayStation has the biggest market share. It has the largest and best library of games. It has most of the top game franchises. I'm not making that up; it's the truth. That's not to say that there aren't a lot of good times to be had on Xbox or GameCube, but at the present time it appears that it's going to tough for either one of them to catch up with Sony.
|
you forget it was out a year earlier and that is one of the big reasons its the most popular.

I can't dispute the fact that the PS2 is winning the console war, but mainly because of two key factors. First, Nintendo lost a MASSIVE percentage of their customer base because of the N64. It was a VERY poorly planned system, and that cost them BIG. One of the biggest drawbacks it caused Nintendo was the loss of many exclusive 2nd party licences (ex: Square). That leads us to another part of the equation. Because the N64 tainted a HUGE percentage of the video game population's impression of Nintendo, many people have taken a serious "Nintendo is for kids" stance. Ridiculous as that may sound, it is the main reason why Nintendo hasn't outsold Microsoft by 200% yet. The idea of "Nintendo is for kids" has a more weight than most people will allow it.
The second key factor is that the PS2 is viewed mainly as "every man's console". Because the console has HUNDREDS more games than the GCN or XBox, most buyers see it as being the best choice. Because there are so many titles, just about anyone can pick up the cpnsole and find exactly what they want for it. The Gamecube and XBox are in a completely different league. Those two consoles are seen more as "video nerd" consoles. Because of how risky the XBox sounds, how "child oriented" the Gamecube seems, and the limited libraries for both consoles, most people view tham as being suitable for "video game nerds" moreso than themselves. To put it simply: the PS2 is for the casual gamer, the GCN and XBox are for the dedicated gamer. And there are substantially more casual gamers out there than nerds like myself. |

I bought my PS2 because I wanted a console to play the Legacy of Kain series on. That, and since it's backwards compatible with the PS1, I can just give my old system to my younger brother.
But hey! This isn't the PS2 forum, it's the Gamecube forum, and this thread is concerned with Final Fantasy, not the "console war". So, just to put my two cents in, I'm more psyched about this game than I can possibly explain. I've been waiting for Final Fantasy to return to Nintendo for eight years, and my dreams have finally been realized!! Hopefully this game will be better than FFX was. |
Yeah, lets get back on topic. I think this game looks decent. The graphics sort of look like FF9's but I can't really tell yet since there are so little SS. The main character (Or I think main character) looks like a mini version of Reno only in dress up type clothing. I think it has just been announced so it's hard to work with... maybe you can keep us informed Fury.
|
Shit Pheonix, I forgot...It's called "Final Fantasy:Crystal Chronicle(check the website) My bad...ok Hellmonkeys...I agree with you but this is like the first time i've got on in about a year,so...I let y'all know bout any new updates on this game...Well, Hellmonkeys, if it says ONLY ON GAMECUBE cuz its the first original game.... the other consoles would get updated or shittier versions...I agree with ask_rabber. ALL THE CRAPPY PS2 HAS GOING FOR IT IS FRICKIN SEQUELS, PREQUELS, AND DAMN UPDATED OR ONLINE GAMES!!THAT SUX!!! WHERE HAS ALL THE ORIGINALITY GONE???!!!
TO THE GAMECUBE YOU DUMBASSES!!! (PANT,COUGH,PASSES OUT ON THE FLOOR....) ok...so i had a temper tantrum...so what>? |
Well, just think about the possibilities with the Square/Nintendo collaberation....ports of older ff games to the GBA, Mario RPG 3, SaGa games...new FF for the 'Cube...
|
I would crap myself if they ported FF 1-6 to the GBA. The Chrono series on the Cube would be nice too.

I beg to differ on the graphics argument. Look at GTA3, Blood Omen 2 and Spider Man. GTA3 has HORRENDOUS graphics, Blood Omen 2 is one of the most graphically flawed games I have ever played, and Spider Man on the PS2 is easily the poorest looking of the three versions. And those are just a few examples. FFX's in game graphics look like hi-res N64 visuals, and there are countless other examples of the console's power inferiority to the XBox and Gamecube. Graphics mean very little in the grand scheme of a console's worth, but don't go making assumptions when you are visibly wrong.
|
Agreed. I think Gamecube and Xbox have obviously better graphics than PS2. Also, just because they were released a year later, doesn't mean they had a year more development time. They were likely started later. It does mean however, that they should have newer technology - which they Do.
And on topic, I just got a Cube yesterday. I'm so glad that Square and Nintendo are back together. Square single-handedly made the SNES awesome. FF2, FF3, Chrono Trigger, and Secret of Mana are *STILL* 4 of the best 10 console games of all time if you ask me. I would love ports of these on Gamecube. Also, games like these or sequels to these games... Breaking News! I just got this from www.enix.com Topic: Square Announces Secret of Mana 4 for GameCube!!! And it Supports 4 players!!!!!! (http://www.enix.com/b/Forum14/HTML/000432.html) :) Make my day! |
Raab, I'm pretty sure there was a Chronicles. It was 2,3,4 combined (I think).
|
FF Chronicles was FF4 and Chrono Trigger.
|
He's right. Saw it at Blockbuster recently.
Maybe FF5 or FF6 was in it also? I'm not sure on this, but it would sound a bit lame to just have one FF Game in a game called Final Fantasy Chronicles. Anyhow, Secret of Mana 4 -- 4 Players! Hopefully it'll be more like Secret of Mana for SNES than Legend of Mana for PSX. That will pwnzor. Possibly it will because its a Nintendo system, and maybe they'll point out how Legend wasn't nearly as good as Secret. |
Well, PSOne (I think, may be PS2) is getting the classic FF games ports. Also, the graphics for GTA3 arn't bad at all. I dunno what you were smoking at the time but they are perfectly fine. I mean, XBox's are better, gamecubes are a little better, but still, in dunno what they were doing in the dev. studio during that one year...
|
FF5 and FF6 were released in Final Fantasy Anthology. FF4 and Chrono Trigger were released in Final Fantasy Chronicles. I would recommend picking up both.
And, I agree with you, Bob, Secret of Mana was VASTLY superior to Legend of Mana. |
Legend of Mana was whacked with the "plant seeds, grow towns and dungeons" system. I didn't like how you gained and dropped partners every couple of dungeons. And worst of all, the fighting suxxored. Secret of mana pwnzzored!
Also, you can't say that Gamecube and Xbox don't have awesome graphics. We saw with PS2 that many games didn't actually take advantage of the newer technology until quite some time after release. Wait till the next wave.. or possible the one after that.. of games for Xbox and Gamecube hit the market, and then we can discuss who has better graphics. Cube and Box will improve, but PS2 has already hit its limit, unless you crack it open and put in a new vid card. *Raises eyebrows* ? Anyhow, NO FAIR! PS2 shouldn't get ports of FF games that were originally on a NINTENDO system. Gamecube.... from.... NINTENDO should get them! Bah! Bah! Oh well... I guess I'm stuck to playing them on SNES and Emulatorz. |
I liked the art style and animations in Legend of Mana. All the different options were really cool too (forging your own wepaons and armor, instruments, raising monsters, building golems). But, the fact that the ENTIRE GAME was just a series of mini-quests really disappointed me. And I'm willing to bet that if Square wants to make any more money off the already existsing FF series, they'll probably port some or all of it to the Gamecube or GBA. I mean, so far they've ported FF7 through 9 to PC, so why not sell it to Nintendo fans too?
|
Have ya'll seen the new SaGa game graphics..? They're considered cel-shaded, but their hand-drawn and look really sweet....

(GC library=Mario, Mario, and umm luigi plus more Mario ahhh!) But I think the ps2 hasn't done bad at all on it's selection of games that it has produced.. Socom it is online so what it is a completely new idea to consoles a NAVY seals sim plus the offline game single player mode is some of the most innovative gameplay I have played forever Kingdom Hearts can't get much more original in the RPG genre Onimusha was a new Idea Red Faction New and many more the truth is that the consoles (none of them) don't like to take risks so none of them really like to invest in innovative Ideas My opinion on the console war is why care the more competition on the market means I pay less in the end... plus I have owned all 3 consoles and I prefer ps2 personally but the other two are still worth the purchase.... FF crystal chronicles might be the game to get me to buy a GC (again) hopefully it will lower it prices soon... |
