High Blood Pressure
Anyone else have to deal with it? I've apparently had it for a while, and am finally realizing I need to change my life before it starts to negatively effect me down the road... Suggestions?

Bench press
Don't smoke. Apparantly it greatly increases it; Even second-hand smoke. Uhm, if I remember right..Fiber lowers blood pressure. And of course, foods without hella saturated fat, and sugar. And excercise.
I eat salty/fatty foods like it's my job and smoke like a chimney and my blood pressure is always really low. The only time my blood pressure really goes up is if I'm on Adderall.

Agreed.

ALL YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE ARE BELONG TO US.
I don't really know much about it. I tend to get it high sometimes, though. Some say it's because all the salt. I do love my fries salty... |
Yeah, I had high blood pressure back in the day. I got addicted to egg rolls...Long story. It really isn't a big deal, unless you have it constantly.
Retarded question:
Do pancakes have effects on blood pressure? I have, like, 4 blueberry ones with syrup and butter an' stuff. Now I feel fat. Speaking of which, where's Grav? |
Possibly, next time...Go to Safeway, and take a test. I'm pretty sure they're free. Then go eat 4 blueberry pancakes, with syrup and butter an' "stuff?"...Just eat them slow, and make sure you're calm when you take the test(s).
Well, sometimes I put things like oranges and bananas and overies on them. To each their own, right?
Well I went to the doctor recently and it was 118/58 so I guess i'm in the clear. I've never actually been diagnosed with HBP but it's always been a big concern for me, maybe it's just 'white coat' HBP. Who knows? Too much thinking tends to take a toll.
That's not bad at all. "Normal" is 120/90, I think. Yeah, being nervous can get it high quickly, good catch. And congrats. :)
Thanks man, I appreciate it. I actually need to be monitoring it though just for reference since my genetics makes me more prone to having issues with it later on in life.
Your welcome. Who all in your recent ancestry has had it, if you don't mind me asking? That has to suck. My mom had diabetes dot-type symptoms on her finger when she was young, so she freaked out when I had HBP awhile back ago...Thinking it was diabetes. T'was a nightmare; I had to take the pressure test every day and night.

Good enough for me.
my bp has been 126/77 120/58 126/77 etc the last few times i've tested it. I've been reading 'Calming your Anxious mind' by Dr. Jeffrey Brantley forworded by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
120/80 for me. Which is slightly high for this age.
Yeah the 'pre-hypertension' stage. It's not exactly too much to worry about, but most doctors will say to just cut back on caffeine and sugary stuff, and try to exercise more.

Thank you KA. It makes me feel a little better. High blood pressure runs in my family. When my thyroid was tweaking out I had 150/98. I was getting migraines and all kinds of shit.
Wow! You are amazingly efficient!
King Amazon is half American, Half British, Half Bird, and Half Robot.
That's four halfs! K_A is so efficient he's two people in one! You should try being a butler, K_A. |
I always figured you were more of a stoic type.

My blood work just came back. Everything was in 'normal' range. I'm not diabetic, my total cholesterol was 127, hdl was a little low at 33, but nothing abnormal. Very happy camper!
I'd be surprised if it was otherwise. You're young and relatively fit.
Why'd you have your blood work done again?
Because I had a panic attack and went into the ER because I felt as if I was having a stroke (dizzyness/disorientation to a numbness feeling on one side/racing heart). I went to the doctor 2-3 days later and she recommended I have some blood work done (possibly having diabetes, etc). They told me nothing physically was wrong with me after doing a few small evaluations, and the doctor said it was probably anxiety. I'm now finding out numerous other family members have gone through the same thing, which is funny that they're telling me after the fact.
I've had a couple panic attacks out of my entire life. Weird shit. I think mine were associated with having hyperthyroidism imo, not that I have the slightest clue wtf I'm talking about. I about had one when I woke up and couldn't use my arms because my thyroid was screwy.
i used to have panic attacks when i was younger
If that's how it works, I have a panic attack everyday between 4th and 5th hour at school! Oh, and sometimes at 1st hour.

A friend had this book and I read it, it's interesting and helps you understand a little better what's going on inside your own head... you may find it worthwhile: http://www.amazon.com/Change-Your-Br...8238881&sr=8-1
I'm pretty sure I saw that at Books-A-Million when I purchased the one I'm reading currently. Thanks for the heads-up. I just skimmed through a few pages on amazon and am going to follow up on this, thanks.
It's very interesting how you can get into a response routine so inherently and once you've had a fearful situation your body learns that it has to be scared enabling other areas of the brain that can negatively trigger you to become more fearful, it's very intersting. |
Sounds like the stuff I came up with in fourth grade... :o
