What color should I paint my car?

I'm not going to get into specifics, but I am repainting my car for the last time and would like some input on what everything thinks would look cool/different. I may or may not take the selection seriously, but I will have the car painted within the next 2-3 weeks and will post pictures of said finished work.

The general colors are: Red, Orange, Blue, Yellow, White, Grey, Black, Green, Brown.

Automatically I'm going to rule out orange, green and brown due to the hideousness that it shows up on the car. Once I have a general consensus of what color to generalize from, i'll specificize down to one particular color in the selected spectrum.

WetWired 2009-05-22 10:01 AM

What kind of car?

Jessifer 2009-05-22 11:18 AM

I'm a sucker for a silver car.

I totally want a purple car, though.

Willkillforfood 2009-05-22 11:23 AM

Post a pic of your car. Can't go wrong with black.

Sum Yung Guy 2009-05-22 04:13 PM

Whatever the poll results end up being is how you should paint your car. So as of now grey and yellow.

Here is a human representation of D3V's paintjob:

Sexy.

Lenny 2009-05-23 09:40 AM

Call me weird, but I've got a hunch that D3V's car is the one mentioned in the thread about his car... unless he's changed it in the last three days.

Red's nice, but I think the Stratus would suit a metallic blue better (I can't find a decent picture of a metallic blue Stratus, so here's a picture of my Dad's Saab to show the colour):

Jessifer 2009-05-24 09:41 AM

I kinda like that, actually...

WetWired 2009-05-24 05:12 PM

I don't see it.

Sum Yung Guy 2009-05-25 04:29 AM

Open your eyes!!

Jessifer 2009-05-25 05:23 PM

I don't see any brown in the shoe...

WetWired 2009-05-25 11:09 PM

Not only that, but I don't see the pattern in that picture.

D3V 2009-05-26 06:36 AM

Hah! You guys are awesome.

Jessifer 2009-05-26 10:25 AM

And the car is missing some white.

D3V 2009-05-26 10:27 AM

I'll have some much better resolution pictures coming up shortly, all these old cell phone shots look disgusting, which is very similar to how my car's paint looks atm as well. I've already begun sanding with 150 grit, and have about 95% of the vehicle finished sanding. I hope to, by this weekend, have it taped and ready to go!

WetWired 2009-05-26 10:59 AM

You're painting it yourself?

Jessifer 2009-05-26 10:59 AM

Have you decided on a color?

Yes. I am trying a completely new method that is unlike any traditional painting method, and hopefully it will turn out as planned.

Not yet, I am just going to prep it. I already have all of the sandpaper purchased, among thinners etc. I still need to get some painters tape and the actual paint enamel and then i'll be ready to go.

I am going to take a bunch of photos so that I can keep a timeline of this little project and show others how I did it and hopefully encourage money-strapped individuals to an alternative of taking it to a professional.

Draco2003 2009-05-26 12:36 PM

I think this Toyota Blue is nice...
Plus, Dodges look nice in a lighter color... except the Viper... The Viper can wear shit brown and still look sexy...

The only unusual method I can think of to paint a car would be to dip it in paint. What exactly is this method?

Draco2003 2009-05-26 01:16 PM

I am curious too, because I read that the new thing the EPA is trying to push is these water-based paints... but for someone that doesn't have an enclosed area, it's gonna be hell because they take longer to dry... and if it's not that, then I dunno...

You might be skeptical, as am I, but I am going to go forward with it. I've been researching this little method for a long while it involves enamal paint, a bit of thinner and some paint rollers

It is the absolute best way to paint a car if you are strapped on cash. I have a complete tutorial I am going to use in this method (keep in mind if it turns out horrible I have a friend that can fix it for me, for a small labor price).

WetWired 2009-06-14 03:17 PM

So how did this go in the end?

Sum Yung Guy 2009-06-15 02:46 AM

He died from paint fumes.

I'm only on the 2nd coat still I haven't had a chance to finish things. My car had another fatal blow a weekend ago and has been sitting so I have have no motivation to continue working on it. I have a few pictures but i'm going to wait until i'm finished to post all up. It looks great thus far, i'm very suprised on how clean it actually looks.

WetWired 2009-06-15 09:18 AM

How do you have weeks to work on this? Don't you need your car to get places?

Sum Yung Guy 2009-06-15 10:35 AM

He seems like the type to drive it half painted.

D3V 2009-06-15 10:36 AM

I have an alternate method of transportation. I haven't driven that car in about a month or so now and it's just been tinkered away at the last few weekends or so. I'm debating on getting rid of it at this point and starting a frest set of car payments.
