New Zelaron Default Theme

Well folks, we have finally decided to start making a high-technology theme as many of you have requested. The sketches have been worked on for a bit, but when we came to the "postbit" template (the layout of an user post, such as this blue area with an avatar, signature and buttons), we encountered a few problems.

Since we are planning to make something truly unique, advanced, yet very handy, there have been some arguments about the signature placement.

The first example (below) shows you a lot of new ideas. I'm sure you can understand the descriptions seen in the image, but a few things should be brought up. First off, the signature image would be limited to 400x100, and a few lines of text/smaller images of your choice could be placed in the "quote" section. The obvious downside with this is that the signatures will be considered small, smaller than the images most of you use today. Also, since we will not delete the other themes, some larger signatures might come in handy.

Below this text, you can see the other example. It is not extremely different from the first one, except that the signature is placed directly below the post, similar to the current standard forum themes. The bottom right section will be decorated deliciously with effects, such as pipes, tentacles or anything that comes in mind. Of course, this version has downsides as well. First off, the functionality remains the same as before, which isn't neccesarily a bad thing. Larger signatures can be used, but on the other side, perhaps you would like to see some more changes? Another downside would be that having the same "decorations" in the bottom right corner could get boring after a while.

Both of these themes will be deliciously decorated with futuristic sci-fi/megatokyo looks, and should be quite enjoyable to see, assuming that we manage to make them properly.

Chruser 2002-07-31 03:07 PM

Oh, and remember to comment these themes as you like.
Here's a quote from a girl who has been on my AIM list for quite some time (and yes, she's both smart and artistic :D):

"i like the one with your signature down in the lower right hand corner, b/c to have your signature take up the bottom third of the post content box is showy and egotistical."

ShadowXOR 2002-07-31 03:10 PM

go with layout 2, look how small my sig is but it doesnt fit because its 468x60........and id have to make custom sigs for this forum since its way smaller then my other forum 500x100 is absolute smallest you should go for a sig

Jamesadin 2002-07-31 03:10 PM

whoa, thats.....different

ShadowXOR 2002-07-31 03:11 PM

showy and egotistical? is she smoking crack? the whole IDEA of a sig is to show your skill, people believe it is to show your name, its not, that ican be done though, your name to the left above your avatar is where your name goes

ShadowXOR 2002-07-31 03:13 PM

and you should take my opinions seriously i have been a graphic/web designer for years, have skinned forums and know quite a lot, i suggest you vote with me, if you want to see some of my work check http://www.loneshadow.com

"CRØNîC-KîLLå" 2002-07-31 03:13 PM

i vote for example #1 staright up looks better, goes with the flow of the design, looks more proffetional and looks more of a tech look.!!!!

Jamesadin 2002-07-31 03:14 PM

a sig kinda shows your personality, same with your avatar. Remember that time Randuin had that killing little girls avatar, that tells about him. But lets not get off topic.

ShadowXOR 2002-07-31 03:15 PM

both of the things above are just rough drafts so i dont know how you can see it being more techy...

WetWired 2002-07-31 03:15 PM

Really, how does having a sig that someone else made for you do that?

Jamesadin 2002-07-31 03:16 PM

well thats for us less artistic type.
(read what I said above)

ShadowXOR 2002-07-31 03:16 PM

thats not my fault that they dont want to make there own sigs, and there not following what a sig is, i make my own so dont look at me and it is also there too look cool

ask_rabber 2002-07-31 03:16 PM

i like the first one although the minimum should be 500x100 (being thats almost the size of the signature ShadowXOR made me). and also with the signature in the bottom right the post content would be easier to see (although it is right now, itd be a little easier)

"CRØNîC-KîLLå" 2002-07-31 03:17 PM

example 1 may be cut off in space, but space doesnt matter... if your skilled enough in art even having an art touch to you, you would know what can make pics stand out, and you can make them just as good as bigger ones, take for example chruser's new pic... now that stands out more then the others he has had chee i wonder why? because he has enough skill to make it overpower bigger ones...

Chruser 2002-07-31 03:17 PM

Of course, if someone hates the whole idea with it, for instance, that the avatar would be on the right side, just vote for the first option and explain why.

Jamesadin 2002-07-31 03:19 PM

its new, and it takes some getting used to thats all

dude no shit i could make a sig small that stands out but that doesnt mean i want to go to extra effort to make a sig I only use here when i use my 468x50 sigs everywhere else, which are small in themselves

Kidagakash 2002-07-31 03:21 PM

Well, i vote for number 1, the main reason why, because haveing the avatar on the right instaed of the left is somthing new, and i have never seen before on any forums, as for sigs, your not forced to use this new template, you want to keep your old sig, dont use the new template!! (Wow that was a no brainer)
but then i think.. hmm.. okay ppl using their old sigs, what happons if somone using the new tempate see an "Old-school" sig? hehe (Finds what she thinks to be a loop-hole)

Thank on it! i like the first one! i say go for it!

Jamesadin 2002-07-31 03:21 PM

I dont think he meant it that way

the avatar is on the right for both of them slick

ask_rabber 2002-07-31 03:23 PM

notice that on the second one the avatar is ALSO on the right...

--EDIT--
aww shit he posted that a minute before me!

Jamesadin 2002-07-31 03:23 PM

I like #1, its something new that might attact people to the forums

ShadowXOR 2002-07-31 03:25 PM

or the lack of a decent sig could not attract people

Chruser 2002-07-31 03:25 PM

Well, keep voting. I haven't cast my vote, and I'm not planning to do so either. I prefer to stay neutral in situations like this, since I really want the users to pick the best template.

Jamesadin 2002-07-31 03:31 PM

I just want the sigs to become big enough again, or else I wont be able to get one

Jamesadin 2002-07-31 03:37 PM

will someone please take the wote away from dont change it and put it into #2 that is mine and I would like it changed

Kidagakash 2002-07-31 03:40 PM

Kidagakash 2002-07-31 03:55 PM

you a mod of this forum? humm... not very
mod-like to to go around dishing out words like that....
mayhaps you sould just settle down, and we can talk this over like normal pplz? or!! i have an idea! lets keep it on topic!!
wow! theirs an idea!! lets just stop poking fun at my l33t spelling huh? it gets old when everyone trys to insult me cues of it. trust me. im not insulted, i know i cant spell, and i know my grammer is messed up. so try poking at somthing else for a change? maybe?

good work *winks*

ShadowXOR 2002-07-31 03:57 PM

how about you just talk like a normal human being, and i am a mod, who cares what words i use at least i speak english, 1337 is the language of net losers with no life and if you want to talk normal instant message me, we can talk like normal people but not like normal "pplz"

Kidagakash 2002-07-31 04:00 PM

hmmm.. me speek english? thats unposable!

first off, i do speek english, and i spelt it l33t not l337, whos the net loser? fixing net loser text typos? pft. funny funny happy fun!

stop flaming and get back on topic lil man!

ShadowXOR 2002-07-31 04:01 PM

little man? im 6'1" and if you ever had a boyfriend (doubt you ever will) im sure i could take him any day, and as for 1337 i just type it i dont know your official net loser lingo

Kidagakash 2002-07-31 04:05 PM

a boyfirend? how did this get into my personal life?
Talk about Off Topic!

honeslty i dont want a boyfriend, sorry. IMO i find that men are all after the same thing. so its a waste of time. (im not saying all men are like this, just Alot of them)

Back on topic huh? i like template #1 dont like it? dont use it...

Jamesadin 2002-07-31 04:07 PM

ok, a lot off topic, #2 is the best in my opinion

Penguin 2002-07-31 04:09 PM

i just want bigger sigs and avatars... since now i have to give up BOTH of mine due to the fact that we are all supposed to use this new theme =/

i guess you cant set diffrent avatar sizes/sig sizes based on themes? so like if i diddnt want to change to the new theme i could see My avatar regular size but to others itll be cut off... dunno

ShadowXOR 2002-07-31 04:13 PM

i wish we could do that that sounds like a really good idea

Kidagakash 2002-07-31 04:14 PM

exatly what i was thinking about the sigs and stuff, but it hink ppl sould have a choice, if they want to use the old template they can, with any size sig they want. but thing is. ppl using the new template... your sig might look weard to them..

but as well to poke at Chruser a bit, you seem to want to put in a rule about sig/avatar size yes? (I could be worng) , but their was never one before (i could be wrong). so i dont think ppl would want to follow somthing that never was before, sorta like i was doing on LoD. and trust me new rules = alot of un-happy campers and un-needed flames. :-)

(im happy its back on topic now :-P )

Also... ShadowXOR i have taken the time to just plain ignore you, to prevent anymore OT bullshit. so babble al you want, i wont respond to your MSG's

ShadowXOR 2002-07-31 04:26 PM

by saying your going to ignore me is the very act of not ignoring me, if you were to ignore me you wouldn't have even posted that. Your trying to make yourself feel good by pointing out your ignoring me....how sad.

Sum Yung Guy 2002-07-31 04:29 PM

Im digusted by you all. Flames are for the flame forum.

Now what some other people said or hinted at... is it possible or feasable for users to define which sigs and avatars appear in different themes? I think that would be awsome. Make 2 similar sigs, one that will fit in this new theme and one that shows the bigger size in your old theme...

Its a shame I'm not able to use that signature ShadowXOR made for me just last night... also as for what ShadowXOR said and WetWired's reply (that wasnt wetwired it was his evil twin) about how signatures are supposed to show the users skills and personality... I believe it does that even if you did not create it yourself... but if you did, more power to you. Just think some of the speeches said by important people... alot of those are written not by the person who said it, but by a writer.

Thats my $0.02 on this these recent changes on Zelaron anyways.

:edit: Also I'm not voting because I'm undecided... and for the first option... I don't even use that theme I use Ocean, It matches my avatar and signature.
