Old Shoutbox Bug Report Thread
 

If you have any problems with the shoutbox, report them here. Also, feel free to make suggestions. I'll keep this list updated(other mods feel free to do the same.)

Issues so far:

The shoutbox makes the "Zelaron bar" at the top left of the page unclickable in any area that is directly to the left of the shoutbox.

When the shoutbox refreshes, it automatically scrolls back to the bottom, which makes it difficult to go back and read stuff if you miss anything.


Suggestions so far:

Add more user customization, such as changing the placement of the box, changing the refresh rate, etc.

Have the shoutbox move down the page when you scroll down.

Refreshing Zelaron doesn't bring me back to the shout box.

Never mind, that was just me being dumb.

Honestly, I think the shout box can stay fixed in place, just somewhere less intrusive. Perhaps at the bottom of the page?

I actually think it would be cool to keep it in the center, but have it scroll down with the page as you scroll down. Kinda like those annoying ads some websites have.

I can't duplicate your non-clickable bug, and I can't fix the scrolling issue.

Are you using firefox? It could just be a firefox issue.

It's appearing in the top-middle of my screen, however that may just be the resolution I'm running at.

x2, that may be cool for you, but I like it just fine at the top of the page, in the corner.

My next project is a popup option, so you can keep it visible.

I predict that WW is right in thinking that the shoutbox is going to kill the forums.

How can it kill something that is already dead? If it's that big of a problem, make it show up on the Index only, and that if you go to New Posts or the Chatterbox, etc, make it hidden to only the Index. Comprende?

Whilst it's nice to have the Chatbox run after you like a clingy girl trying to stick like glue, I don't suppose it would be possible to make it optional? If I've jumped the gun and you're working on that at the moment, then I apologise.

I'm going to suggest an option of it not scrolling, or atleast the option to have it stuck at the top of the page like it started out as, mine won't seem to quit scrolling.

You can always close it and/or use the popup version. It also minimizes.

In the end, I'm still seriously considering demoting the every-page one to a "In the chatbox" window stuck to the top, showing a snapshot and if you type something, it opens a popup session and posts it. This way it's clear who's here to chat and who's not.

For me the chat box seems to get rid of my scroll bar if it is open. It is kind of annoying seeing as i like to type in it and post. Not only that, but if it is even in popup form it kills my scroll bar.

Wait, you're saying that when the chatbox is in a separate window, it still kills your scrollbar?

This is how it turns scoialist for me:

- Click the arrow to minimise the chatbox.
- Navigate to any page by clicking a link
- Click the arrow to restore the chatbox, et voila, the Post button begins to show it's Leftist tendencies.
- Refreshing whilst the box is visible fixes it.

Just thought you'd like to know.

The shoutbox is currently defunct. Attempting to post a new message results in a big version of the shoutbox popping up, which I can't post in either.

There is no shoutbox, and the minichatbox is reduced functionality. I've tested the posting in both IE and FF. What browser are you using?

^ I get that screen when I post in the minichatbox. Instead of posting, it pops up the largechatbox.

Also, the minichatbox still goes behind avatars.

It's supposed to popup the large chatbox then post your post, but on IE it doesn't for some reason. How does the minichatbox go behind avatars if it doesn't go down the page?

I like it the way that it was originally. You have it stuck at the top right of your page, and nothing more. I think it should just remain real simple, and back to that way but that's just me. Having it follow you sucks because it's like an annoying popup and I have to keep minmizing it..

It is behind the first person's avatar. Remember, I adblock the large banner image so the minichatbox is lower.

Chatbox isn't working for me. I can say something i little mode, and then it goes to big mode, i try to say something else and it just says "error" and thats it. then i must put it back to little mode and repeat the process. whats the delio?!?

What exactly does the error say?
