Yes, the server is *really* fucked up

I really don't want to talk about it. We're planning on reinstalling everything over the weekend, and hopefuly we'll be able to limp along untill then with no further problems. Yes, a weeks worth of posts are missing, no I can't do anything about it. Now, for sleep... sleeeeeeeep

Demosthenes 2004-07-15 01:32 AM

Well, good job on getting the board up. Hopefully everything will get resolved.

timmay1113 2004-07-15 01:35 AM

Ehh everything will work out and it will work eventually if people start complaing just ignore emm cause they are gay

Slim 2004-07-15 01:40 AM

Well, on the bright side maybe this will shut up all the people that seem to think you do nothing for the boards.

Raziel 2004-07-15 01:52 AM

There's a week's worth of posts missing? It all looks fairly new to me.

slaynish 2004-07-15 03:23 AM

Missed here.

I feel for you WW

Sucks to have something fuck up... Damn

Sovereign 2004-07-15 03:36 AM

Thanks for getting the board up ww.

I'm down from 100 percent and lost 600 posts though . There goes my goal of 7k in a year. Oh well.

Chruser 2004-07-15 04:53 AM

Note to self: buy more RAM. Trying to open a 460 mb .sql file in wordpad with 256 mb ram = bad idea.

iceman887 2004-07-15 07:11 AM

gj for getting board up

Sovereign 2004-07-15 07:12 AM

Note to chruser: Save backups more often -.-

Vollstrecker 2004-07-15 07:14 AM

Thanks for getting things back up, WW and Chruser. You guys own.

Randuin 2004-07-15 07:17 AM

How the fuck will that keep the database size down?

KagomJack 2004-07-15 07:42 AM

Good job, WW :)

The important thing is, you got it back up.

Titusfied 2004-07-15 08:28 AM

It won't keep the database size down, but it will prevent the loss of a week's worth of posts.

Vollstrecker 2004-07-15 08:29 AM

Meh. Do tell us what happened, when/if you get the chance, if you wouldn't mind.

Sovereign 2004-07-15 08:32 AM

Whoa. Randuin lost over a thousand. haha.

From what I understand, the server went apeshit and damaged the database. Chruser then had to upload the 460 mb database from his computer to the zelaron server, an get it back up.

I was trying to open a 345mb sql file in notepad once and my computer just shut off.

This is a great tool, http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=62149 Hope things get back to normal. Good job WW, and Chruser.

HandOfHeaven 2004-07-15 09:36 AM

Thank you guys so much for getting the server up. We are all grateful, and please continue in making/repairing this great site.

Tyrannicide 2004-07-15 10:57 AM

All that matters is the site is back up.

Medieval Bob 2004-07-15 11:03 AM

You know, this worked out a lot better than I expected. The last time(s?) we had a rollback, all I remember is people bitching and whining about losing posts. There's one thread right now, but it seems light-hearted at least.

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate WW putting the work into getting Zelaron back up. It doesn't matter that we lost posts. The only real losses are the conversations that we probably won't continue now and the time that we could have spent discussing things (spamming *sigh*) when it was down.

Personal thanks and props to WW for his work and dedication.

badboy 2004-07-15 01:08 PM

Good job getting it back up, because if it were me, I wouldn't know what the hell to do.

undeadzombieguy 2004-07-15 01:49 PM

If it were me I would just say fuck it and leave it to die...Thus I'm glad you ppl are not like me and thank you for bringing it back up :D

kockblocker1 2004-07-15 02:04 PM

I like how you gave us updates on the status when Zelaron was down. You must have been really busy getting her back up and its cool that you found the time to let us users know what was going on. Thumbs up. May your weekend repairs go as well as planned. :)

Chruser 2004-07-15 03:40 PM

Thanks. About the auto-backup features, they only store the database dumps to the server daily, and when backups are really needed, chances are they have been compromised as well.

Oh, and go idle in IRC if you like.

Or, you can use the java client at:

Just be remember to switch channels to #zelaron once you're in.

Dr. Geekstar 2004-07-15 05:42 PM

hey im glad too that the boards are back online... but i had almost 300 posts and i spend hours on this forum to gain them... i know few hundred posts isnt much but for me it is cuz i have waaaaaaaaaay too few now so i wont get anything from the diablo II give-aways and ppl will flame me cuz im 'new'... can it be fixed ? =.=

btw: my big shoulder to Sovereign (and ofc all the other active members) to cry on ;) (well yeh, u lost 600+ post didnt u ??? i know how u feel ;))

WetWired 2004-07-15 05:48 PM

Actually, I don't think anyone actually lost 600 posts. You see, whenever postcount is retallied, I have to run a query to add the count from past pruned posts back into the postcount. If I forget, or if someone else retallies them, all the old members' postcounts drop, and they complain.

I wonder why I even bother to save those post counts. They're all from the shitpile, so it could be argued that they were undeserved.

Shining Knights 2004-07-15 06:14 PM

It matters not whether you win or lose; what matters is whether I win or lose.

Randuin 2004-07-15 06:36 PM

IRC is forums in the past

MightyJoe 2004-07-15 09:35 PM

Way to go guys, I would have been lost.

Shining Knights 2004-07-15 09:44 PM

-Spector- 2004-07-15 09:57 PM

thanks for gettin it up :D i was gettin bored -_-

Thanatos 2004-07-16 01:26 AM

No kidding; good job.

HandOfHeaven 2004-07-17 09:08 AM

I hope the repairations go well for both of you, Chruser and WetWired. You've done so much, despite the chaos sparked from this. (Forum being down)

D3V 2004-07-17 12:47 PM

I don't even see what the big deal of post counts are, since the invention of the 'Activity' bar.

RoboticSilence 2004-07-17 01:16 PM

If you don't care about postcount you can always join the no postcount group like I did.
