Summer Tip: Don't sleep with the air conditioner constantly on

Apparently, I'm starting to get pneumonia. That's apparently how my grandfather died - sleeping with the air conditioner on, got pneumonia, and died. Feels like my lung capacity got cut in half.

So, uh.. yeah, be careful about that. The modern air conditioner - friend or foe? Discuss.

!King_Amazon! 2004-06-25 09:09 PM

All forms of cold are evil.

platnum 2004-06-25 09:10 PM

I turn my air conditioner on in my room when I sleep only.

Silverjinx18 2004-06-25 09:14 PM

I keep the air conditioner on all night at like 65 degrees...doesn't really bother me...

BlueCube 2004-06-25 09:16 PM

Oh sure, it doesn't bother you now, but when you wake up and wonder why the heck your chest is hurting and you can't breathe as well as you usually do, you'll scream CURSE YOU AIR CONDITIONER!!! and post in this thread again, wishing you would have heeded my words.

HandOfHeaven 2004-06-25 09:17 PM

Normally I have it on, doesn't bother me at all. Sometimes my dad turns it off, maybe cuz he has trouble breathing. Oh well.

platnum 2004-06-25 09:18 PM

My air conditioner is energy star.

KagomJack 2004-06-25 09:44 PM

you probably wouldn't believe me, but i was told by a doctor that, despite super sensitivity to hot and cold, i probably wouldn't be able to catch pneumonia even if i had the air conditioner running 24/7

BlueCube 2004-06-25 09:55 PM

Perhaps not YOU, Immunity McNotGonnaGetSick, but bacteria DO like to breed in air conditioners. Apparently there's some kind of "Legionnaires’ disease" which I think I'm going to look up on Google..

KagomJack 2004-06-25 09:58 PM

lol, yeah there are. My family is immune to most diseases that breed in the air conditioner (pneumonia is an exception except with me)

‡AC‡ 2004-06-25 10:06 PM

i sleep durring the day so i turn it on durring the day. I rather like the cold. cant stand summer time, to hot.

KagomJack 2004-06-25 10:11 PM

you sound like my mom there MasterAC. She loves the cold and hates the heat. She would move to Alaska or Antarctica if she could :/

‡AC‡ 2004-06-25 10:21 PM

i live in south louisiana, it gets friggin hot durring the summer. winter on adverage is about 40-50 degrees.

KagomJack 2004-06-25 10:22 PM

Ah, I lived in Mississippi for 12 years. I rather enjoyed the summer (i am totally opposite what my mom is like when it comes to weather preference)

Thanatos 2004-06-25 10:26 PM

My AC is on right now and I can actually feel my legs starting to get numb, but I'm too lazy to get up and turn it off. Don't judge me.

KagomJack 2004-06-25 10:28 PM

I freeze my ass off downstairs in the basement while my mom burns up upstairs :/

badboy 2004-06-25 10:31 PM

I live in Texas and I'd have to say that playing football in 100 plus heat with gay humidity has made me hate the heat. I would love to live somewhere where it never gets cold, like Antarctica.

KagomJack 2004-06-25 10:36 PM

ever had 110 with a really high humidity and not being allowed in because it's "hotter" inside than outside when in fact thats' only because they haven't paid certain bills and the a/c was cut off?

badboy 2004-06-25 10:38 PM

Another reason why I hate the heat is my car has no AC, so everytime I get into it it's around 140-160 degrees.

Exactly..

Wait.

KagomJack 2004-06-25 10:42 PM

ugh, that sucks man...*feels like he's in an oven* jesus christus...that's a horrible though and feeling :(

Thanatos 2004-06-25 10:48 PM

I used to live in Arizona and we didn't have our AC working when it hit the record of 124 degrees. Needless to say, I was cold.

Wait..

KagomJack 2004-06-25 10:57 PM

heh, people in IL call 70 degrees hot...I laugh my ass off every time i hear that

Titusfied 2004-06-26 12:40 AM

The extreme temperature change with the AC constantly bumping will definitely cause your sore to be raw and extremely sore too. Conspiracy!

Chruser 2004-06-26 04:25 AM

65F is just about perfect.

Sovereign 2004-06-26 06:32 AM

No AC for me. I just use a fan blasting full force on my bed.

iceman887 2004-06-26 08:06 AM

it gets so hot when your in bed so it is really hard not to turn on the ac.......

BlueCube 2004-06-26 09:40 AM

Exactly, you know that Air Conditioners are just biding their time, until they rise and conquer humanity.

Penny_Bags 2004-06-26 10:25 AM

MY damn air conditioner near killed me, like you BlueCube.

I woke up one morning (it is right above my head and stuff) and my throat was incredibly dry, and my lungs hurt. I had a terrible cold for a week, and missed three days of school, because I couldn't do many things like walk, breathe well, or THINK.

Penny_Bags 2004-06-26 10:25 AM

I exaggerated the fuck out of that, but yeah.

Thanatos 2004-06-26 10:28 AM

Sneaky bastard.

Penny_Bags 2004-06-26 10:30 AM

1337 Sneaky pimp of exaggeration... bastard.

Sovereign 2004-06-26 10:32 AM

Thanatos 2004-06-26 10:34 AM

I watched that for about 2 minutes and then wondered why.

WHY, SOV!?

Titusfied 2004-06-26 10:36 AM

Ugh, I used to use 64 F, but that still screwed me up. Then I went to 68 F, and that still occassionally got me, now I'm chillin' at 72 F, and that keeps me plenty comfortable at night, and never bothers my throat. I'm a genius.

Then I threw my AC out the window, because BCube scared me.. :(

Penny_Bags 2004-06-26 10:41 AM

It didn't per chance land on that "Mista Mista" lady did it?

frickaline 2004-06-26 10:51 AM

A/C units are evil.
...but then there is Central Air which is a wonderous, beautiful thing. It takes me to happyland.

BlueCube 2004-06-26 11:02 AM

Actually, not being able to think well is a symptom of pretty serious pneumonia.. not much of an exaggeration..

Thanatos 2004-06-26 11:08 AM

Like we're supposed to believe that? Not a chance, buster.

KagomJack 2004-06-26 11:15 AM

i used to run the a/c at 50F in winter when I was in MS, never got sick and neither did my mom or aunt.
