Stop bitching about the quick reply

I fucking heard you already. There are some things I will yield (just about everything else), and there are some things I will not yield (changing the quick reply). The quick reply is so that one can view individual threads of conversation in a thread in hybrid or threaded mode. Though threaded mode isn't very usefull with the imported threads, after people have been replying to the specific post they are replying to, it will become just as useful as I have found it on other boards I visit that have it. Also note that if you are replying to multiple different posts in a thread and they happen to appear one after another in linear mode, it's not considered double posting anymore (replying to the same post again or replying to yourself before someone else posts, however, is still considered double posting)

I'm just pissed because it's one of the last things to load sometimes and these forums are about 110% slower than they used to be.

LiveWire 2004-01-19 04:05 PM

::hands WetWired a pillow::
I could careless if i have to take a 0.235 seconds out of my time to click a button. :)

WetWired 2004-01-19 04:22 PM

We're working on the speed issue, both with hardware and software. I bought the hardware, but it needs to arrive and be installed, and I need more access for longer than I have here at work to seriously address the software optimization aspect.

I just got back from being away for a couple days, and I'll bitch all I want.

This damn quick reply is stupid.

Bitch.

Sovereign 2004-01-19 06:17 PM

Oh stop complainging, its hitting an extra button, not a big deal at ALL.

Medieval Bob 2004-01-19 06:25 PM

Here's a question. I'm not bitching.

If the quick reply (without quoting) doesn't indicate which post you are replying to, then why is it required to click it before posting? I can understand if it were to indicate in some way the post to which you were replying. I can understand somewhat if it can be set to default to quote when you quick-reply. I can't understand, however, the usefullness of having to click it.

I'm sure I just missed an explination somewhere. If someone could kindly direct me...

I would have to say that the quick reply is meant to be quick, not click this button then click but wtf, it doesn't take any time to click the button at the bottom of someones post and about the loading time, the quick reply loads quick enough if you actually read replies made in a thread. if u just read the first post which would be the starting post then you could miss an important point and reply saying something about something that was cleared up making urself a dumbass. It loads quick enuff on shitty p2 computers at skool so unless u have a 28k modem y would u complain.

I like arguing, its so much fun. : }

WetWired 2004-01-19 09:02 PM

What you're missing, Bob, is the fact that even if you don't quote, it keeps track of what post you're replying to. This will become more apparent after I write a hack I'm planning...

!King_Amazon! 2004-01-19 09:06 PM

How about we ditch this hack and make this shit normal?

What do they say..."Don't fix it if it isn't broken"?

Medieval Bob 2004-01-19 09:34 PM

Okay, that's all I was asking. I just thought that if it kept track of which post you replied to that it would incidate it somehow.

Randuin 2004-01-19 10:44 PM

Agreed! Somehow the entire forum loads a bit slower... Not sure why it would though...

I know the new version of Vb3 has over 80 Querys now, compaired to Vb2 having only 40. Plus im not sure if any of WW Custom hacks adds more Querys. The more the database has to work with excuting querys the longer it will take for a page to load. I've notice that the longest thing to load is the Quick Reply. Its the VERY last thing that loads on the site.

Randuin 2004-01-20 12:23 AM

WOW! Double in queries... Holy shit... IPB has an average of around 8-12 queries on any given page!

But doesn't have as many features vb has.

Hades-Knight 2004-01-20 01:38 PM

QUickreply has always been there........for me at least...?

!King_Amazon! 2004-01-20 03:29 PM

We're talking about the stupid button you have to hit, or maybe you're just special.

Adrenachrome 2004-01-20 03:50 PM

I think its convenient, I dont hav to scroll all the way down, it's quicker to post a quick reply now, than it was with vb2.

Randuin 2004-01-20 04:47 PM

Actually, if you're in threaded mode you don't have to press a button :D

!King_Amazon! 2004-01-20 05:24 PM

That's because it splits the thread into mini threads and you reply to the current one.

Gay.

Jamesadin 2004-01-21 05:37 PM

Yeah, im not a fan of the threaded mode. o_O

Valmar 2004-01-21 10:29 PM

Well, congrats. The new forum is complete and utter shit. It used to be pretty slow to load but now its fucking horribably unbearable. Im sure im not the only one who will now cease to visit this monstrosity due to the poor syntax of this ex-forum. Not only is the quick reply, slow but its also hardly convienent. The so called "upgrade" of this excrement was exactly the opposite. WetWired, i surly hope your either getting payed heavily or not spending any cash on this forum because if you are, then the old saying is true, "In every brilliant mind there is equal or greater stupidity".

Most of the admins are inactive, despite what others say. Everyone says they are only inactive in the view of the public, but this is degrading not only the credibility of this forum and Chruser, but also conflicting with the guidelines set by not only Chruser but by every other forum ive ever visited. Administrators are susposed to be helpfull, visit on a frequent basis, state thier opinion whenever they see fit and above and beyond all, be competent.

The moderators and Sup Mods are not quite as bad as the Admins but still, most of which were appointed thier authority not because of thier qualifications but because of thier ability to suck up and spam. This is completly unacceptable. This is susposed to be a helpfull forum, funny how i hardly see the helpfullness of this disgrace to gaming forums.

If this forum is ever to exceed pure stupidity and wastefull spending of money there is quite a bit of work that must be done. Which, keeping in mind the competency of the staff, will not happen. Most likely you people are not understanding what im trying to say but, much like every other decent member, im out of this bitch, holla.

I honestly haven't had any problems with loading what-so-ever. For me, it is actually faster, and doesn't have any load screens like it used to. For example, when you used to hit the "View New Posts" icon, I would get re-directed to a page, then it would go to the New Posts. Now, it just goes directly to the New Posts with no problems. The most loading comes into play the first time you view a thread because all the Activity and Posts portion below the avatar are loading for the first time.

The Admins are not inactive. Chruser is always here, as well as I am (When I am not having Computer Problems), WW is always coding and upgrading, and Penguin has been a lot more active lately.

The Sup Mods have been better, and the fact of the matter is, an extremely active Sup Mod was needed to make sure all threads are kept clean and abide by the rules. They are doing their jobs perfectly.

Let me guess, you were the role model Mod, huh? Hardly. Don't go gloating around and prancing on your high-horse when half your accusations hold no bearing. That post was only half properly made. The first paragraph is consistent with this thread, but the rest should have been made into its own complaining thread.

My only complaint is no user-specified titles, but I'll get over that...maybe...

Chruser 2004-01-24 06:41 AM

There's a tooltip on your avatar for that.
