Do you have your PS2 on its side?

Apparently, according to my friend who had his PS2 standing on its side, it was designed so you could put it both ways. I had heard rumors but no proof. Now I want to find out how many of you actually have it on its side.

!King_Amazon! 2003-11-08 08:17 AM

Duh, they even made a stand to do it. Did you ever wonder why the CD tray has slots on one side? It's so the CD doesn't fall out when you put it in while the PS2 is on it's side.

Kthxbye.

And no I don't.

Thanatos 2003-11-08 12:02 PM

Don't spam Jizmo.

I don't have a stand.

Senesia 2003-11-08 01:29 PM

Yes, I have a stand as well.

Rurouni Storm 2003-11-08 09:28 PM

I've been told that standing it on its side without the stand can damage the lens.

If you have it on the side, make sure it's perfectly level or you'll wear out the lens.

LiveWire 2003-11-08 09:38 PM

KA is right. I have mine on its side.o_O

Medieval Bob 2003-11-08 11:36 PM

Standing PS2 vertically is bad for it however. After extended playing, it can damage the reader in the PS2.

!King_Amazon! 2003-11-08 11:37 PM

I don't know why anyone would want to anyway...

Kuja`s #1 2003-11-09 01:01 AM

Exactly right KA. Pointless.

J_iceman 2003-11-09 03:02 AM

actually, sooner or late you will have to but it in its side (at least thats how it works with the older ones) my buddy had it flat for some time, then for some reason it couldnt even recognize it and it said insert disk, or no disk. And then some relative suggest to flip it over (just like the original playstation) and it works

this is how it is;
first it is either flat an or to the side
then it would be ...the opposite; if it was flat then go to the side , if to the side, then make it flat.
then if it STILL doent work, flip it backwards 9we are not on this stage yet, but i believe we will soon go there

its weird but thats how to maximize the usage of that darn thing

RoboticSilence 2003-11-09 03:08 AM

Woah... I just realized that the whole tiem I was looking at this I registered "on it's side" as being horizontal... mine is vertical and I think of that as the right way to do it since it makes PS1 game work better.

!King_Amazon! 2003-11-09 11:18 AM

Mine is horizontal.

p1ng 2003-11-10 08:58 AM

you must be one lucky bastard, mine fell just 2 times and it couldnt read dvds anymore

timmay1113 2003-11-16 10:52 PM

i just stand it up against a chest so it is on its side sometimes but someone usually knocks it down... ohh welll....

Sovereign 2003-11-16 10:56 PM

I dont. Its resting comfortably on its largest side, rightside up.

That's certainly true, only company that makes "Tough" consoles/platforms is nintendo. Seriously, have you EVER seen a platform more durable then a freaking gameboy? You know, one of those old ones. You could drop those 20 feet, then roll them across the road and they work fine. I heard someone rolled their Gamecube down the highway, all it ended up with was a few cracks and alot of scratches, but it still ran games like any other one did. I think the handle snapped off the back though, not sure.

My ps2 is horizontal because it's collecting dust.

but it STILL would collect dust on the top! is that when you put it back in its side again?? good point !!!!!!!!!11

D3V 2003-11-19 03:29 PM

No, because there actually is no point unless you wanna save room. It does more harm than help.

Mine is upside down, I like it to scratch the discs to hell when it drops them, yep, I do'es'.

And the fact that it damages the disk is more then enough reason to NEVER USE THE STAND.

Dan XIII 2003-11-20 09:58 AM

My playstation 2 broke when it fell off the vertical stand.I am never going to put it on it's side.I learned my lesson.

6InchBluePony 2003-11-20 10:33 AM

ya, i had mine on the side, but i dont like it that way, cause it's such a hassle trying to put the cd's in.

Dan XIII 2003-11-20 12:18 PM

Take my advice and don't have it on it's side.

rusher657 2003-11-28 01:38 PM

I have it on its side.

Senesia 2003-11-28 01:52 PM

It can't read some of the Disks if I have it horizontal though.

rusher657 2003-11-28 01:59 PM

It cant I never knew that.

Tyrannicide 2003-11-28 03:02 PM

Sum thimes it wont read wdisks when it is the normal way so i just stand it up and after it loads to the menu screen i set it back down and it works, so that is the on;y time i stand it on its side.

compcam 2003-11-28 11:07 PM

Whenever my PS2 would start giving me trouble with reading DVDs/Some Games, it was just a simple matter of dust collecting on the laser lens. You just have to open up the PS2 and clean the laser lense off with a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol on it. It is a common PS2 problem.

rusher657 2003-11-29 10:03 AM

Man last night I was having my cousin spend the night he brought his ps2 over and it wouldnt read any disk that wasnt pruple.

Kuja`s #1 2003-12-19 07:31 AM

My games started working since I turned it on its side... Don't know why.

p1ng 2003-12-20 02:43 PM

It probably knocked the disc read settings back into place.

haplo 2003-12-20 04:48 PM

i keep mine on its ass and when i put in a new disk i have to flip it on its side then back on its ass to get it to read the disk cause its broken

rusher657 2003-12-22 11:28 AM

that probaly really sucks then

zeal311 2003-12-22 11:16 PM

I heard that if you do have it standing up that you are supposed to flip the little PS2 symbol on the disc tray to the proper angle otherwise it will not read all discs correctly. Probably just a rumour but something to try none the less.

Acer 2003-12-28 03:16 AM

My friend has his standing up, and now his Vice City(only game he really plays) dosent work, could that be the reason?

Or just buy a wet laser lens cleaner. They work well.

rusher657 2003-12-28 11:44 AM

I heard that the old ps2's can only read the blue disks cause my cousin has the old like when it came out and another one that his sister got cause she always hogs the video game systems. And the new one can read all of the disks.
