GameCube down to $99.99
Wow, I figured due to all the people I know and all the people here liked GC so much, it would stay above the $120 mark. Guess it can't stand up to PS and Xbox.
|
I really think that Xbox and PS2 are more popular than the GameCube. When I'm at my friend's house (with a bunch of other friends too), we usually play Halo or Madden 2004. He does have a GameCube, but there's just really no good multiplayer games on it, so we don't play it. I have all three consoles as well, and I'd have to say that Xbox is my favorite.
|
You've gone and made me want to play some Madden, NGM. Thanks a bunch...
|
dude its been a bill for a long time now!!!

Gamecube is the #2 selling console globally. Nintendo isn't outselling Microsoft here, but they're outselling Microsoft everywhere else.
The reason Nintendo did this was to begin a new super-aggressive sales strategy. This is just the first step. Plus, Nintendo can still make money using this strategy, as opposed to M$, who hasn't made any profit on the XBox because it's so damned expensive to manufacture. They keep dropping the price, and they keep digging a bigger and bigger hole for themselves. Nintendo continues to drop the price, continues to turn a profit and increases sales in the process. |
Let me tell you this: The GameCube is certainly no Super Nintendo.
|
No it's not, but it's the best of the current-generation consoles, in my opinion. Nothing will ever beat the SNES because it was the best of the "golden age" machines.
...unless Square started making games solely for Nintendo again, and it wasn't new-age crap like FFX-2. |
Nintendo does not make a profit on the GameCube systems.
In fact, all console manufacturers will take a $50-$250 loss per console, in an effort to create a large user base. This allows them to sell games for $50 that cost them maybe $10 per copy once you figure out the production stuff. The markup in the games is where they make their money, and it more then makes up for the initial losses of any console. This is why Sega has pulled out of the hardware sector and is sticking to producing games for other peoples systems. They've lost too much on Saturn and Dreamcast, so they cater to the userbase of other systems which is already there. Mind you the goal for any manufactuer is to have games exclusive to their system in an effort to increase the user base further. |

I'd rather wait for PC versions of xbox games anyways, they'd probably look better, and work better too. Not to mention modding/patching/plugin, etc.
With all the exclusive game software nintendo has, and their *massively* famous and popular lines of games, they probably are doing quite well., despite not doing well in america. It makes me wonder, do you think Nintendo woudl stand to make a profit for making SNES/N64 bundle packs on GCN disks? I mean both of those consoles had some great games., particularly the SNES. I know I'd snatch up quite a few if they did do that. |

And what does the fact that Microsoft has no high selling games for the X-Box have to do with anything??? In the video game industry, as I said, companies take a loss on the console, and make the money off their games because they are able to produce them cheaply when compared with the markup and the quantities. If Microsoft is losing money, it's due to poor business habits such as making a system that costs so much to produce that they have to take an above average loss per console to actually get a user base, and then not having enough high quality games available / not marketing them effectively along with any other number of factors. |
Sorry to double post, but I just realized I worded something in my first post poorly, and I can't edit the one I just made.

Anybody who has Halo on Xbox has it on PC for one reason: IT'S ONLINE. I still play Halo when my friends come over but I still got it for the PC because it has all of the new features and shit. And only Americans and Canadians can get it cause that's only where it's sold. (Thank God.. or you would see A LOT more spawn camping ...Koreans...)
And I don't know if it's just me.. but most of the people in the United States only likes games like Halo, Madden NFL 2004, and online games. That's mainly why I like my Xbox the most. But if you didn't have any friends to play with, then I guess you wouldn't like Halo so much. Xbox may not be doing as well sales-wise, since you can only buy one copy of Halo (unless your like me and buy Halo action figures.. lol), but it's still probably the most popular console in the United States. |

|
Man, I haven't been able to find my golden auction yet... :(
I'll continue my looking. |
Just buy the damn thing! It's the cheapest console on the market, and you'll come to realize that it's the best! I could name a small number of games that would keep me busy for months, and a much less rabid video game fanatic busy for probably twice as long.
What do you like? Blowing shit up? Metroid Prime, Metal Arms: Glitch In The System or P.N. 03 Adventure games? Zelda: Wind Waker, Star Fox Adventures or Beyond Good And Evil Platformers more your thing? Viewtiful Joe, Mario Sunshine or Vexx will suit your needs with flying colors. RPGs? Skies of Arcadia Legends, Summoner: A Goddess Reborn or Tales of Symphonia. You want stuff that will scare the hell out of you? Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil or Resident Evil Zero. Racing Games? F-Zero GX, Extreme-G 3 or Mario Kart: Double Dash!!! There's a ton more stuff than that, and everything I've mentioned is top-tier quality. Better design and innovation than anything else out there, and technologically more impressive than PS2 games. Pick it up. You won't be disappointed. |
Yeah, well as much as I don't wanna sound like a cheap skate, that is exactly the reason... I really don't have money to just throw around to get video games... My legal fines are just a little too over-whelming and saving $50 is very pivital at this juncture in my life.
|
Legal fines? For what? Were you porking your neighbors' goldfish with a fried chicken leg? Or was it something significantly less disturbing?
|
No, when I got my DUI. Not only did I get hit up with 12 months loss of license, but I got a little over $6100 in fines tacked on to that bad boy. I was in a school zone, which is why I got so fucked...
|
Oh damn. Well, yeah...stop drinking! I'm in debt, but at least it's not to The Man! And being in my kind of debt is a lot more manageable. More room in the budget for video games and such.
|
The only bad thing about gamecube is their gaming 'style'. Most of em are Family games. Theres nothing wrong with these games but they are childish and boring, Atleast they are now releasing more rpg games, which make gamecube more profitable.
And no, I have no proof, if they are making or losing money, or and percentages of what games they are selling. |
Again, I don't quite understand what the fuck people mean when they refer to Gamecube games as "family" or "child" oriented. Just because it doesn't have buckets of gore and flopping tits doesn't mean it's geared toward children. The design in Nintendo games is exponentially better than almost anything I've played on any other console. Learn to look past the fact that their games aren't loaded with swearing and gore, and you'll enjoy them.
|
It's because the N64 had games like Yoshi's Story. It WAS a good game, but it was also a child's game. Kind of funny really, n64 was an awesome shooter console, what with that controller and all. It had tons of gore and what the average joe refers to as "mature" on it, but still a handful of games geared for younger kids and they screw the system line for a while. Heh, Turok was fun, also fun on GCN. GCN is much much different then what they think it is, and sadly most people don't realize that. They also probably only realize that as far as I know, when game news groups refer to the gcn as doing poor, or the xbox doing really well, their only talking about the US market. And for the fact that a vast, vast majority of american gamers are just too stupid to be inclined to play something more difficult, or use a fair amount of their brain, and that microsoft just about owns the damn country, it's no wonder they can turn american brain mush into money. They just want something that's extremely simple and requires next to no thiking. Sad, in't it? It'd be much, much better if they wrapped up an international market instead of just stating US sales. :\
|
yeah i probably buy one because i guess thats the only console i dont have :-P but the games are as expensive as ps2 games right?? (i dont know, its been a while since i bought a game :-(
|
Tai, Nintendo quotes worldwide sales frequently. Microsoft avoids it because they want to give the impression that they have the number two console worldwide, where in reality, that's not the case at all. Shit, PS1s have been selling better in Japan since the release of the XBox.
It is sad to think that this country is fueled by an instinctive need for "fast food gaming" which is exactly what everyone but Nintendo caters to. There have been plenty of child-oriented Sony games, but nobody brands them as being a "kiddy company." So, why do people do it to Nintendo? Because it's the only thing even close to a competent argument they have. The instant that any intelligent gamer hears the phrase "Nintendo makes kids games" they (for the most part) give up any hope they have of reforming the aforementioned moron, and resume playing good video games. It's not going to change, one way or another. |
so i guess its some type of phycological thing then...i mean for a REAL gamer, they would realize that then right??

super smash melee=GC POWER
