Radeon 9600 Pro

Hey, does anyone know if this card is decent or not? I desperately need a new card, but I really don't have more than 200 bucks. If anyone has any input on this card, or a better one to suggest under 200 bucks, that would be great.

Xenn 2003-06-28 04:34 PM

Get a 9500 Pro instead.

Hades-Knight 2003-06-28 05:17 PM

You say "i dotn really have any money" then you say "I only have 200"

you should be happy you can get a card that can play new games.....

Don't spam my thread bitches. Anyways, anyone else have an opinion?

Xenn 2003-06-28 07:34 PM

If you have a very lousy power supply, get a 9600. Otherwise, a 9500 Pro is better (it's faster, despite being a lower number.)

uncapped 2003-06-28 07:49 PM

I know. In all the benchmark's i've seen, 9500 Pro is almost 10% better at higher resolutions. If I can find a 9500 Pro around my local area, I'll get it.

Get this, it's leet.

That has nothing to do with a graphics card. Besides... it's too much.

Xenn 2003-06-28 08:03 PM

Uncapped, you should try to find a site online that gives a good price + free shipping, local stores (the ones around me anyways) are always overpriced. I got my speakers 40 dollars under retail, with free shipping (and you have to pay tax at local stores too).

- 9500 pro, retail, 182 bucks and free shipping.

Anyways just suggesting :)

Cool. Thx, Xenn. I'll order that in a few days.

Hades-Knight 2003-06-29 01:58 PM

Oh my god, I just realized that I have like a 10 year old sound card. Should I get a new one of those, too?

Xenn 2003-06-29 03:26 PM

You could get a Sound Blaster Live! for 30 bucks if you don't mind it not having a box or manuals.

Last question. I have a 4x AGP slot. Will this matter, since the card is 8x?

Mr.Lee 2003-07-03 06:58 AM

The card will run at 4x. That means the data transfer will be slower.

Xenn 2003-07-03 08:22 PM

4x and 8x is barely noticably different.

Ok, thanks. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna try out the shadowlands beta. Or at least watch the patch d/l bar slowly move.

GeForce = sucks

mightychicken 2003-07-17 10:47 PM

long story short, the 9600 uses a newer .13 micron transistor size that makes it better in the long run. The 9500 pro's clock speed is a little bit higher, so it'll get more fps in todays games. The 9600 pro, however, will do better on games in the future because of it's more efficient processor. Plus, the 9600 is quite a bit more overclocker friendly. I would (and have) gone with the 9600 pro.
