Lightwave Classes TONIGHT at 6 pm EST

Are you interested in getting started with LightWave, one of the best 3D modeling/animation applications in the world? Just log onto irc.zelaron.com, channel #zelaron with mIRC, or click the http://www.zelaron.com/forums/images...s/top_chat.gif found in the forum header.

You'll get help getting started with the program, and you'll have the chance to ask other "Lightwavers", including myself, for support and advice.

If you need a demo version of the program, simply send me a private message.

Oh yes, follow the link below for the official Newtek Lightwave gallery. It's worth looking at:

So remember folks. 6 pm EST tonight is the time! If you can't make it, there will still likely be another class tomorrow with a bit more of planning beforehand.

First off, XSI sell their product(s) far cheaper than that. They even released a free version of Softimage. Houdini used to be extremely powerful, but due to its old age, it just doesn't work that well any longer. I consider LightWave to be one of hte most powerful applications as it has THE best modeling tools and the best rendering engine, although Maya has a live renderer. Did you know that a lot of the Maya projects (i.e. the Final Fantasy movie) used LightWave for modeling?

Randuin 2003-02-16 02:10 PM

yes i infact did know that... but did you know they use maya for animation which really makes the whole thing come alive?

EDIT: oh ya btw on the free version of XSI... did you happen to know it's the free leanring version of it and many other packages have released similair things? for XSI it's called EXP for experience package... Maya it's called PLE, Houdini is called apprentice (and trust me it's still much fucking more powerful than lightwave, if you've ever used it that is) 3dsmax is called gmax i believe and there are many other similiar free packages. so ya, you get what you paid for and you paid 2k for lightwave so clearly you don't get as much as 17k

"CRØNîC-KîLLå" 2003-02-16 02:27 PM

i dont think anybody here will actually spend the money for the progs... you can allways find them other ways, hell i got windows xp 1 year before it was released...

quikspy67 2003-02-16 02:29 PM

Jamesadin would like this.

Adrenachrome 2003-02-16 02:37 PM

Randuin 2003-02-16 07:05 PM

adrenachrome it's obvious you know nothing of this subject so please shut up and try to learn something

Adrenachrome 2003-02-16 07:38 PM

All I have learned from you is how to argue about anything, no matter who is right.

Randuin 2003-02-16 11:13 PM

omg... are you an ass kisser or what... chruser is NOT right

Chruser 2003-02-17 11:51 AM

I agree, Maya makes things come to life, but I definately don't agree to the fact that Houdini is as powerful today as it once used to be. Look it up -- Both LW, Maya and 3DS are more powerful today. Acctually, I guess it depends on your definition of "power" in the first place.

Acer 2003-02-17 12:31 PM

Im going to stick with LW, since I have heard of it, and I know tuts for it.... but I will look into that.

I dont think so, its great to have other options, I never even heard of these progs, and now I do.

Randuin 2003-02-18 01:33 AM

Alright I've talked to Chruser... I'll be teaching 3Dsmax once we get some sort of schedule on so.. =\ Be sure to stick around the irc channels

Acer 2003-02-18 11:49 AM

I will stick around, so there is no tut anytime soon tho?

Randuin 2003-02-18 04:27 PM

not sure... gotta talk to chruser about the scheduling

Acer 2003-02-18 04:42 PM

Ok, I am glad more attention is going towards the Graphics section rather than D2.

Randuin 2003-02-18 05:33 PM

ya d2 is just... well... there's no nice way to say this... GAY!

Acer 2003-02-19 11:23 AM

I use to LOVE d2, I preordered it.... thats how long I have had it. The constant laggs/dupes/bugs now is just beyond the limit that I can have. I just use it to learn about cheating :P I still and will never use a bugged item. *Sell* one, maybe :)

Randuin 2003-02-19 04:22 PM

can we get back on topic guys? what lessons would you guys like to have anyways?

Acer 2003-02-19 06:01 PM

I would just like to learn the tools, what they do, and what they are used for in general.

Randuin 2003-02-19 06:23 PM

well me and chruser are planning to release tutorials (video for me and web for chruser) to explain everything about the programs

Acer 2003-02-20 08:11 PM

hehe, videos will own, that is the best way for me to learn. I have a hard time reading tuts, but I do anyways... since that is my easier/widest resource.

Randuin 2003-02-20 10:35 PM

yup i will try to get together with chruser as soon as possible and record some :D

Acer 2003-02-21 01:08 AM

Sounds great, if I ever get good enough, I will help you guys... I love makeing tuts, and if I made a video one, that would make it a lot easier.

Randuin 2003-02-21 08:42 AM

try doing a package we don't know... like i dunno... rhino? or autocad? or XSI may be? :D

Acer 2003-02-21 03:30 PM

I have heard of Rhino, what is that? and is XSI that thing you posted about a free trail release?

Randuin 2003-02-21 05:10 PM

XSI has a free EXP version meaning it cannot be used for production but can be used for learning the software, rhino is a not so popular but easy to use 3d package

Acer 2003-02-21 06:14 PM

I C, yeah I downloaded that XSI thing, I will check it out, if anything I can make my friend learn it and then teach me so I can work with LW and such.

Randuin 2003-02-21 06:34 PM

well get in XSI because neither me or chruser knows much about it :) and many 3d schools are realizing its great power so.. :)

Acer 2003-02-21 07:03 PM

hmm I should... I ran it once, didnt like the layout but I will test it out this weekend.

Randuin 2003-02-21 08:09 PM

i never ran it that much, i had these video tutorials so i fired XSI up... but no luck =\

Acer 2003-02-21 08:42 PM

It seemed they put way to much time into the layout makeing it look nice, which I hate :P Also one thing I love about LW is that there is a Modeler and Layout this is both in one :P, but still I wont cover up its power with that.

Randuin 2003-02-21 09:12 PM

=\ alot of people actually HATE the modeler and layout seperate =\ me for one

Acer 2003-02-21 10:17 PM

I dont, since I want to focus on modeling first then bring it into the layout... and with LW you can just hit send to layout... that easy :P

Randuin 2003-02-21 10:24 PM

well the only thing i like about LW is the layer system... makes modelling architecture a singe
