Ps2 Breaking?
Does any body else have a ps2 that has broken and cant read the disc? That makes me mad!. I heard that there in a law suite right know but chances are they will win cause they have so much money and stuff. It costs $100 to fix one where I am
(US, Ohio) Just wanted to tell you guys. Some games still work for me like tony hawk 3 and jak and daxter. GTA3 doessnt work anlong with metal gear solid. |
I heard that some DVDs damage the sysyem. Do you play DVDs on it.
Oof, that cant be good for Sony's reputation.
Yeah this has happened to me a few times, all I did was take my box too Shopko lied and told them I bought it from them and it quit working, then they exchanged it for me. If I was you I would try the same thing at some what unintelligent places of business i.e. Shopko, K-mart, Wal-mart where they say the customer is always right, and satisfaction is guaranteed. Talk to them right and save yourself a $100 dollars .
Also about playstations rep it is true that sony made ps2 too break easily and not last to increase profits. This isn't a cheap rumor either one of sonys tops that quit the company even reported so to the public. |
happened to me twice, good thing I had warranty ;) I exchanged it TWICE
:s I have a DVD player for dvds, cause its BUILT to play dvds. PS2 is built to play game cds, the dvd thing is an addon because some of the game cds are able to be multilayered and the system can read them.
For the price of repairing that ps2 you could buy a perfectly fine dvd player. |

oh crap, I play DVDs all the time on my ps2.
Yes! $100 down the drain! |
Son'ys hardware is not of the utmost quality, and PS1 reflects that. GC and X-Box are far more durable.
Yeah, I've got a friend that's had his PS2 for a while, and it has stopped playing all PS1 games, most DVDs, and a few PS2 titles. I like the PS2, but it's a pretty flimsy console. I've told you all a hundred times: Gamecube is the way to go.
The problem the happened to me is:
- It no longer reads PS1 game - It no longer reads PS2 original games ( blue ) - It can only read DVD game |
That oculd be a problem.
With the PS1, all my friends who have had one had had problems with it. One time, my friend sent in his PS2 to get fixed, and it took a 6 months to get it fixed. It was supposed to take 6 weeks! |
6 months? That really sucks, do you guys think this is a REAL downhill for the Perfect Play Station II?

Quit your whining, there is nothing really wrong with your Playstation 2. The reason why Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid 2 are no longer working is because they're on a DVD disk. I, along with everyone that has owned a Playstation 2 have got to the point where the system has trouble reading DVD formatted disc. There are numerous ways to fix your Playstation 2 to read games like new, the most common is to go to the "Version" menu. You'll want to go to the "Console" option and then go to the options menu from there. There should be an option called "Diagnosis." If you turn that on, then put in your game, the diagnosis strengthens the laser eye to read the disc in the disc tray more carefully. If this doesn't work (and also a more permanent solution), what you'll need to do is take the shell of your console off of your Playstation 2. To the right of the motherboard, you'll see two pins. If you turn the one on the left about two cycles that will fix all of your Playstation 2 woes for awhile. I have no idea what the pin is, but it will fix your Playstation 2. After that, you'll think you have a brand new system. My Playstation 2 got to the point where it wasn't playing a lot of my DVDs, PSOne black discs, and PS2 blue discs weren't working at all. A couple turns of the pin, and now it works better than ever.
Oh yeah, there is a metal pan covering the pins. When lifting the metal pan DO NOT rest it on, or let it touch the motherboard. Actually, Trey knows more about this than me, he fixed his and mine. Maybe you should ask him. |
I'll be sure to remember that if my ps2 ever messes on me.

Nintendo has gotten too big headed and haven't played there gamecube very wisely, they don't give a shit about you unless you have a gameboy advance which they make most of the profit off of. It is too hard for them too run Gameboy advance and Gamecube at the same time, plus still offer quality. Proof= All the lose of 3rd party support that doesn't want too deal with them, Rare, Online Games

If your PS2 is getting the disk read error, I think they have a FAQ on gameFAQs.com. It should be under Hardware FAQs or System FAQs, and its called the Disk Read Error FAQ. It losts plenty of ways to fix it. I had to go inside my PS2 and turn the screw to get it reading again.
I have some of the same problems. I just clean everything rellly well, then put it all back together. It always works for me.
Why get a PS2 when there are so many problems with it. And why play DVD's on it when u can just buy a system that is meant for playing DVD.
It matters not whether you win or lose; what matters is whether I win or lose.
i play DVD's on mine about once a month, games a few hours a day, and i've not had any problems in the past 2 years and 3 months.

But i heard from people that the DVD's dont run good on PS2.
I think people just find it wierd to be puting in a dvd into there console. I thought when I saw a few dvds on my friends ps2 I never found it all that bad, its maybe not the best quality that you will find on a dvd system, but one thing is for sure its damn better than any vhs.
Everyone and all their bitching is bullshit. The quality is fine. It plays just as good as any other DVD player. Unless you're buying one of those 500 dollar HD TV ready running through Color Stream RGB components. Quality? It's a DVD player, what are you talking about quality. People are just full of shit. The Playstation 2 DVD player does everything the stand alones do.

Just buy a new one... my friend's PS2 broke and he bought a new one.
I wouldn't buy another one if the first one broke, buy a system that is reliable.
I'm not really sure why his PS2 broke, it was quite odd I must admit.
The laser that reads the discs burns out so that you first cannot play blue/purple discs then you cannot play any... I reccomend you get the 2-year warranty when you buy the PS2... this happened to me and I had to buy a new one.
Yes, the 2-year warranty would be a good idea.
I doubt it Jamesadin. And if you do buy one of those DVD players, you have to have a 500 dollar Plasma TV that may or may not have RGB components. But I'm sure that's you too.
I would just buy an ordinary DVD player.

You dont necissarilly need a plasma screen TV to have the components. All you simply need is a TV with the proper ports and cables. Then you need a worthy amplifier. |
"Thats what I thought".
Why did you put "that's what I thought" in quotation marks? Is that a quote from a movie or something dipshit? And just about any TV with RGB components that will properly represent the power of a 500 dollar TV is a HD or Plasma television. An amplifier doesn't have a god damn thing to do with anything.
And of course you'd buy an ordinary DVD player Quikspy. You also would rather drink frozen sperm than a Big Gulp ICEE. You're just a bitch like that. |
I dont understand him either.
Ok someone at scholl says it so I put quotation marks around it.
