It's definately possible, though in my eyes it's somewhat unlikely, but that's only my personal opinion.

I doubt they would start all this hype if they were just re-announcing a game they already cancelled. But it's possible.

Vollstrecker 2007-05-18 04:20 PM

Well, considering there was a large fanbase for Ghost already started, I wouldn't be shocked if they made it a huge announcement.

I know they've had postings on their site hiring for a next gen MMO, where WoW was not mentioned at all, so they're already working on WoW's successor. I doubt that's what this is for though.

!King_Amazon! 2007-05-18 04:42 PM

If they're working on WoW's successor already, Blizzard isn't as good at business as I thought.

WoW is still in it's prime. They'd be stupid to let it go now.

Lenny 2007-05-18 04:47 PM

Unless they've been working on whatever it is for the past however many years, then their announcement will be an announcement, leaving them two or three years to develop the new game, and for WoW to have a few more years at the top.

Dar_Win 2007-05-18 04:47 PM

If it's WoW's successor I'll be pissed.

Right, but think about it. A MMO takes multiple years to develop, WoW will already have been past its prime by the time they'd be announcing their next MMO. Next gen would be making a whole new graphics engine and all, this is going to be a serious project.

WoW was in development for a long, long time. If they haven't started working on the next already, I'd say that would be worse business practice.

Competition with themselves isn't as huge a deal as one would think, datacenters can be migrated to their new game as WoW's subscriber base declines, which seems especially smart if they end up losing any real portion of their fanbase to other games before their next one comes out.

I wouldn't expect a new MMO from Blizz for 2-3 years minimum.

Edit: Excuse the minor rambling if it's hard to follow, I typed that between customers at work, so it's hard to keep a line of thought continual like that.

WoW can be sustained with patches imo. Don't need xpacs.

I had a hold on starcraft ghost for forever. Then gamestop calls me and says its been cancelled (or was it put on hold indef)

Grav 2007-05-18 06:21 PM

The suspense! (Don't care)

Willkillforfood 2007-05-18 07:40 PM

It'd be funny if their fake Starcraft MMO April Fool's joke was just to gauge public opinion.

Vollstrecker 2007-05-18 07:45 PM

I always thought Starcraft would have some good potential for a MMO.

If anyone knows of Battletech, I think that would trump any MMO made by Blizzard if whoever produced it does it right.

Willkillforfood 2007-05-18 08:57 PM

battletech 2020? I beta tested that shit.

Vollstrecker 2007-05-18 09:12 PM

What is that? I was referring to an MMO based on the Battletech universe, but I've only vaguely heard Battletech 2020.

What kind of game was it?

Lenny 2007-05-19 09:08 AM

No way has no-one posted since the announcement...

There are videos up and everything!!

It was Starcraft 2, btw, if someone, for some ungodly reason, doesn't know.

MightyJoe 2007-05-19 09:24 AM

Hell, its about time.

Silly me. Didn't see the thread in News. :o

Ah well.

Vollstrecker 2007-05-19 11:16 AM

I had a feeling, as Starcraft 2 directed to Blizz's site whereas Diablo3.com redirects to a privately owned fansite.

I'm still of the mind that a Diablo 3 would be an MMO. =P

Check that out. Why would they go through the trouble of making an SCII trailer without actually starting on the game. I think they're definetly going to make some kind of SCII, whether it's strat or mmo. We'll just have to sit and find out.

Vollstrecker 2007-05-19 04:42 PM

Hi.

http://starcraft2.com

It now works, Starcraft was announced last night in Korea at Blizz's World Wide Invitational.

Slyvr 2007-05-19 04:45 PM

Yay! It's finally here!!!!!!!!!!!!! W00000000t!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just hope now that they make it modable and more editable than the first starcraft.
