Well, might as well make a forum for this since one of the mods is apparently interested in this stuff =P. If it brings more interesting people (...they definitely would be interesting) then I'm all for it.

What about having the adult forum up for a few months as more of a "test run". If it's successful keep it up, and if it's not...well...we've gone this long without an adult forum. I'm sure no one would miss it that much if it were to be closed again.

Maybe there should be a link that will lead you to an entirely new url with forums based on those free forums. Registering a domain isn't hard or expensive, I'd be willing to do that. All we'd need is hosting.

Most any adult male has had the scenario occur where one of the guys in the group has just turned 18, and the rest of the crew wants him to score them some porn. So, he does, and all five or six of you sit there, weirdly quiet and uncomfortable as you watch some sleazy video, trying to conceal your gross teenage boners. You thought it would be funny or entertaining, but no. Now you're just aroused in a hot room full of dudes.

I'm not down with Zelaron, a gaming forum, turning into a sweaty room filled with nerd boners.

I can understand everybody's appreciation for porn. I personally believe it to be the backbone of the American economic landscape. However, I don't think you guys really thought this one out. Who wants to sit around and discuss porn? How would that conversation go? "I'm really intrigued by the way that mexican chick's labia hang down a half inch." Porn is a solo experience for me. Not community entertainment. I'm so glad this never got implemented.

I don't really see any need for it, nor do I think it would attract any of the activity we're looking for. Zelaron has always been a place for discussing games, finding other people to play games with, and a place for intelligent debate in my eyes.

You could post movies. I'm not the one to talk to about hosting anything. I know the idea of user webspace has been worked on before, but the size and bandwidth that you get isn't really enough to host movies.

I suppose since there wouldn't even be that many people who have access to things in the Adult Forum, hosting movies would be somewhat feasible, but like I said I'm not the one to talk to about that.

It's just so hard to argue against wanting more people. Chruser's aim log that Grav posted in the resignation thread was genuis, I do agree with it, but having more people is never a bad thing.

Even if somebody does stumble onto the website after looking at or for pr0n doesn't always guarntee that they are morons or geeks, (in this case geeks seem to be wanted..more Mj's, woop) but people that can carry a converstation, contribute.

Another thing is that most people are against it haven't honestly offered anything different for the forums, they just like to take the WW side of things and just bash them into the ground before giving it a chance.

The Adult forum wouldn't bring new members as it would be a private forum and would not get google hits and such.

It isn't guarnteed that it would be private, that would also be up to a vote. This would be the perfect scenario to implement the feature to make them register after a certain amount of Views per IP..

I'm the one who originally came up with the idea and discussed how it would work with WetWired and Chruser. There was an agreement that it would HAVE to be private or else it would not be allowed, since minors view this website. Those were Chruser and WetWired's terms. WetWired has yet to figure out a way to do it where you have access at home but not at work, so it hasn't been done yet. I'm not entirely sure if that feature is even necessary, but he insisted upon it, and the idea has since stagnated.

It seems there are 2 opinions on the matter regarding getting more people here. My point of view is that I'd rather attempt to attract more posters that would add to the intellectual side of Zelaron while the other view appears to say 'new people are new people'.

I don't know about everyone, but there are other boards I can visit if I wanted to sift through a slew of retarded content, Zel's intellectual debates and discussions are what keep me here.

It's different because it'll do exactly as Vollstrecker said months ago: divide the forum. You'll have the original group of people who are longstanding Zel members, who are videogame nerds expressing an interest in porn, then you'll have the porn nerds looking for more porn. And talking about porn. And roleplaying porn.

You'll have an influx of porn-members, about 5% of which will actually contribute to the rest of the forum, much like the activity during the major D2 days. Lots and lots and lots of morons, only this time they're not even videogame nerds, with which the rest of us have a major connecting factor. This time they're PORN freaks, and furries and scat fetishists. Is PORN really the common ground you want to establish between yourself and hundreds of complete strangers? That's not a community I want.

I agree that the forum needs drastic changes, but not that sort of change. Have you ever actually browsed the forums on sites like Consumption Junction? The activity on their message boards is just repugnant. The quality of activity is completely faceless, individual relationships and any sort of "community" element are non-existant, and the posts themselves are 99% stupidity and vulgarity. Good activity becomes totally lost in the sea of retardation.

If Zelaron plans on making huge changes, the thing that's going to do it is not forum layout, or new styles or types of discussion. In fact, the forum itself won't save the forum at all. Content brings activity, and "content" does not include forum posts. People post about content. By content, I mean articles. Reviews, opinion pieces, news, etc. And not just shitty AP cut-and-paste like Zel used to do on the old portal; real writing. That's what brings decent, intelligent activity to sites like Something Awful. The fact that the site content is the star of the show, while the forum itself is more of a backstage element.

You want huge activity? You want good, huge activity? It's gonna take more work than new sections to bring it. People don't just want a message board anymore, they want content, and they want a message board so they can discuss that content. Those are the kinds of changes that need to be made.

My suggestion = The truly "adult", respectable approach to evolving the forum.

Porn Forum = The easy way out. It'll only dig us a deeper, messier hole.

Once again, so this is clear, the Adult forum would not bring any activity, and is not INTENDED to bring any activity. It would be a private forum that nobody but approved members can even see, similar to the staff forum.

The only intentions of the adult forum were to have a place that people can post stuff that you normally can't post here, such as porn, or heavily adult discussions, etc. There are some things that are not appropriate for our younger members.

I see. Some members were talking about it like it was going to be a solution for activity problems, which was my issue with it. If it were a hidden, selective invitation forum then it doesn't matter to me one bit as long as it isn't advertised, those of us not interested can simply avoid it.

Which is why I don't understand why anyone would be against it. It would be completely hidden and completely optional. If someone doesn't want to participate, they don't have to, they don't even have to know the forum exists.

Well, as I said, some of the members were using it as a "if this got implemented we'd bring in more activity" and stuff, rather than it being a place for existing members to post stuff.

I'd still be against the adult forum being advertised as being on the site, just because it really wouldn't bring the type of posters I think we're looking for, just to communicate my opinion clearly.
