It's 2.99 right now. Let's see what it ends up being tomorrow.

Sovereign 2005-08-31 04:28 PM

I saw 3.08, 3.22, and 3.26 near my house.

You know what I hate about the crazy high prices ($4.54 per gallon) in Canada? The situation in the Gulf of Mexico should have little to no effect on us, we get our own oil, mostly off of our East coast or in the Alberta/Saskatchewan tar sands.... And most of our oil still goes to the United States.

HandOfHeaven 2005-08-31 06:06 PM

They really need to mass produce different substance burning cars that are cheaper. It'd be awesome if you could make a car that runs on saltwater...

WetWired 2005-08-31 07:06 PM

Gas is between $2.60 and $3.19 here.

Penny_Bags 2005-09-01 06:31 PM

You know what, honest to fucking god... we DO need to do that.

It pisses me off so much. We don't fucking need oil. I get so frustrated with this shit. I don't know what scientists are thinking. If they created a car that ran on something like that and found a way to make it marketable and such, they should be winning a nobel prize.

HandOfHeaven 2005-09-01 06:36 PM

Well, if the environmentalist would let us drill Alaska we wouldn't have any problems, because supposedly that's more abundant than the Midde East. And if we could get a pipeline or something in Siberia I hear there are oil reserves there too. $2.99 today, jumped up 46 cents from Tuesday.

Jamesadin 2005-09-01 07:35 PM

Drill in the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge? I don't consider myself as a hard core environmentalist, but havn't we fucked up nature enough?

WetWired 2005-09-01 09:14 PM

Rigs can drill sideways, too. Drill in from outside.

As for alternative power cars, there have been plenty of viable ones over the years, but the problem is that no matter how affordable they were, noone wanted to buy them. Now that gas prices are rising so fast, the makers don't make them fast enough to keep up with the demand.

High Demand+Low Supply=High Prices.

nty :-(

My dad was telling me about it being 5 dollars a gallon in ATL.

Sovereign 2005-09-01 09:44 PM

Drill it.

It's 3.47 now for premium.

badboy 2005-09-01 09:59 PM

Gas went up 60 cents from the last time I filled up Monday.

Bioethanol.

Use acres of fields to grow wheat and such, and you can use the bioethanol produced to power your car. The great thing is the CO2 emissions are less than what the growing wheat and plants actually take in, so you've effectively got a fuel that doesn't harm the environment in any way.

A British company called "British Sugar" is engaging in a pioneering project to develop UK-based bioethanol. The bioethanol can be produced from UK-gorwn Sugar Beet and Wheat.

The bioethanol is mixed in with the petrol and reduces the CO2 emissions by 50%.

And the great thing is, it's compatible with cars. It won't destroy the engines. A 5% use of bioethanol in the UK would give the equivalent carbon savings to taking 1 million cars off the road.
