About being desensitzed due to a dream?

mightychicken 2002-05-14 08:28 PM

no, about dream control.

RoboticSilence 2002-05-14 08:28 PM

It happens... my friend, Alex can do it too... he's like... "Hot chick... *poof* hot chick... *poof*"

In my dreams I only control myself... everything around be acts as though it would act in real life... I've even dreamed things and then they happen exactly that way a few weeks/days later.. weird, huh? One time I dreamed I was just chatting with friends on AIM and I was typing something and made typos mid-way and corrected them... then later that week the same thing happened... I thought it was just some sort of thing that happened BECAUSE it was in the dream... but I noticed the conversation and sentences EVERYONE ELSE wrote... were EXACTLY the same.

mightychicken 2002-05-14 08:37 PM

you can't control your dreams without outside assistance. Plain and simple.

RoboticSilence 2002-05-14 08:39 PM

The way you control your dreams is that you aren't entirely asleep... one part of your brain is still voluntarily used... it's just a gift.

mightychicken 2002-05-14 08:43 PM

nope. i've seen the research. People being mistaken into thinking they can directly control their dreams is a result of A) the fact that dreams are usually associated with things we normally do, so people assume that they're "causing" this, and B)dreams can be modified by auditory interference, such as an alarm clock, which will become a part of your dream if it doesnt wake you up. Also, the reason people think they can "wake themselves up" from dreams is that every single time you will wake up at the climax of your dream. Your blood pressure spikes, waking you up. This guy you speak of obviously thinks that he has some kind of talent that allows him to.

RoboticSilence 2002-05-14 08:51 PM

You may be able to set what might happen in your dream before hand by watching a movie, etc. but there's still odds that it won't happen. Like the Jurassic Park thing... or watching porn before you sleep.

Xenn 2002-05-14 09:18 PM

Yeah you ever get that feeling (when awake) where you just KNOW it's happened before, like in a dream?

RoboticSilence 2002-05-14 09:19 PM

And it had... I watched it both in my head happening and where it was happening... it HAD happened before.

RoboticSilence 2002-05-14 09:20 PM

But sometimes I have dreams where one part of it happens but I realize it is just like the dream and do something differently... and the outcome changes.

JohnnyTAE 2002-05-15 04:35 PM

Man I have had the craziest dreams a lot of dreams that seem to have more meaning (if you know what I mean) and I always have those deja vu dreams that are exact replica's of what happens in my life in the future and some crazy ass dreams that I will have to talk to wiccan about sometime...

HLomegasin 2002-05-30 08:34 AM

I dreamt that I had sex with Natalie Portman, it was wicked

BlueCube 2002-06-05 12:06 PM

Hmm... I personally CAN control my dreams, like flying around to specific places, blowing things up, etc. It depends on how I fall asleep though.. if I daydream and fall asleep while doing it, the control carries through all night. Though, if I don't do that, I have odd dreams (like last night, saving a bunch of hamsters from being eaten by a monster of some type.. odd to say the least. Usually a combination of what happened during the day.) I should also mention the "Falling Dream", where I jump of a cliff above a sandy beach of some sort, and wake up before I hit the ground...

JRwakebord 2002-06-05 08:36 PM

i had that dream once. it turned out i was falling off my bed. i woke up and STILL hit the ground

Chruser 2002-06-06 12:51 AM

I can dream whatever I like, and it all seems realistic. I've learnt how to control my dreams perfectly.

RoboticSilence 2002-06-06 01:29 AM

I have a lot of dreams that don't seem like dreams... not in the way of "They are so realistic" but in the way that they are entirely average. I once had a dream where the entire time I was just walking around New York Cuty talking to my friend, Brian, about normal stuff that we talk about while walking in gym. And one where it was a day of school... it was normal and sucked up until I got some powers or something and ran around blowing shit up and tearing people apart... another odd one.

BlueCube 2002-06-06 10:44 AM

School's a major place for some dreams, oddly enough... sometimes, I'll be in a dream where I walk into the basement of my house, and I'm suddenly in a room in school... and I don't even think that it's out of place or anything.
