Didn't Nintendo just say a few months ago that they weren't going to develop another home console for a while and that they were going to concentrate on games?

In any case, I agree with Raziel about the DS vs PSP issue. Personally, I don't care to carry arround more than one handheld. The GBA can play both the current handheld games, and my old favorites like Metroid 2. The info I've seen on the DS indicates that it will be able to play existing game boy games, so that makes it more of an upgrade to my existing system for my existing collection than a new system that I will have to get a completely new set of games for. I have to say, however, that I'm skeptical about the decision to use a stylus for the DS; styluses get lost, especially by unresponsible little kids, but even by intellegent seemingly organized adults.

What's a stylus?

Kind of like a pen without ink that you use to write on digital screens and things like that. Basically a technology stick.

The DS doesn't solely use the stylus, WW. It's got a d-pad, four face buttons and two triggers. The stylus is there mainly for the purposes of precise control with RTS games and such. It's just there as an additional way to play, like the built-in microphone.

And I would expect that Nintendo will start packaging their own brand of stylus specifically for the DS, because unless it's tethered to the handheld, it will get lost.

It doesn't have to be used all the time for it to get lost. Retaining mechanisms for styluses have a tendancy to wear out, in my experience; the stylus practically falls out of my Palm if I turn it upside down. Of course, the newer models have more inovative retention mechanisms...

I believe he means something like a line attached to the tail end of the stylus with the other end of the line attached to the portable. If you already knew that...I just wasted a minute of my time and made myself look like a fool.

Yes, I got that from Raz's post; however, a retaining strap is unlikely simply because it is uncomfortable to use a stylus with a retaining cord unless the cord is very long, which then creates cord stowage issues.

Well, they could do a retracting cord, but that would just mean a bigger portable, due to the empty space needed for it.

That's actually what I was thinking. The DS is about the size of two GBA SPs sitting side by side, so there probably is enough space for a retracting cord.

Oh, I completely forgot to mention this! Doh. Shigeru Miyamoto has actually stated a number of times that he doesn't even use the stylus with his DS. He uses a q-tip. That's a pretty much endless supply of styluses, in my opinion.

Q-tips have a tendency to pick up dirt...

What difference does that make?

Well, if you're carrying it arround to use as a stylus, it can make a lot of difference.

Such as?

Goddamn ten characters.

Maybe a bit of dirt on the screen? If that's the case it's not hard to wipe off.
