It's a cool idea, but it would require rebalancing of the game or something, otherwise 99.9% of people would play paladin |

Not necessarily. People would just use easier to replace gear when there's no reason to risk better gear. |
[07:55] WetWired:
Non-BOP crafted gear might actually have demand |
[07:58] WetWired:
Though gear loss may balance removing BOP all-together. When there's reason to keep multiple copies, the stuff probably won't be easy to come by on the AH |

I'm still inclined to say the paladin population would probably outnumber all other classes combined. Why WOULDN'T you play a character that can just bubble-hearth out of any risky situation? |
[19:28] !King_Amazon!:
Also curious how you would suggest handling player skills that inflict death automatically in one form or another, for instance Warlock summoning doomguard, Paladin Divine Intervention, etc. |
[19:30] !King_Amazon!:
It would also probably require at least moderate retuning of certain raid encounters, since I'm assuming there are some fights where death is simply unavoidable to some degree |
[19:30] !King_Amazon!:
At least before you have gear that outclasses the content |
[19:31] !King_Amazon!:
I'm sure the idea could be implemented somehow, but it certainly wouldn't be simple, at least within the context of vanilla WoW |
[19:31] !King_Amazon!:
Some classes would be really screwed by such a ruleset, like warriors who are incredibly gear dependent versus other classes |
[19:32] !King_Amazon!:
I mean, a skilled rogue with no gear other than white daggers can take on fully geared players in vanilla |
[19:33] !King_Amazon!:
I like the concept though, to be clear |
