Could not log in last week

I had an odd experience last week where I could not log in nor could I register a new account. Was this expected?

I believe registration is disabled, but login should have worked.

That explains the lack of bot posts. Could we not do a captcha or something? If we've got old members wanting to check in, but they can't remember their credentials, kind of limits them.

Captcha doesn’t stop spam, it only slows it. Spammers pay actual people to complete captcha or even entire registration. In some cases, they are also paid to post, but usually, the actual spam is posted by automation, most often several weeks after registration.

This is something I hadn't considered when I disabled registration and could be a good argument for re-enabling it. It gets lonely without the bots anyway.
