I'm not that good, but I do carve a bit...in fact, I'm working on a chess set for myself.

I'm not much for wood, but I do clay, sometimes. I made a skull out of clay, but otherwise, nothing of recognition, yet.

I haven't done so since I was a kid and would widdle myself arrows out of some straight branches. How far along is the chess set?

Whittle.
To "widdle" is to piss. For example, "Shit, I just widdled myself. FAIL. :(".
Never done it, though after seeing one of those pencils carved from wood, I always used to think that I'd get a pencil if I sharpened a twig.
Guess my uncle told me the wrong word as a kid and i've never seen it since then. Thanks lennard.

wood.Hehehe, wood.
But, yeah, it happens. Getting words mixed up because of family, not wood. Well, wood happens too, but...
I have a friend who calls Cattails/pussy willows/ whatever-you-call-'em "Catacombs" because her grandma called them that.
