Does anyone here play a six-string? I just started learning about a week ago, and mine should arrive in the mail early this week. I can only play a handful of simple songs, like 'Smoke on the Water', 'Ironman', and 'Seven Nation Army'. I just got the music for 'Jessica'. It's kind of hard for my novice skill level, but I got the first few measures down yesterday after about 20 minutes. I just figured I needed a hobbie, and playing guitar just seemed like the thing to do. I'm hoping to learn a whole bunch of songs that use all of the strings, so I get familiarized with the sounds. That way I can just start writing my own in time.

How are you learning? That is, are you learning finger-picking or chords?

I use to be somwhat good at playing the guitar.

I am sure I can help you with almost anything HoH. A few songs that I know that are very, very easy are. Heart Shaped box - Nirvana; Adam's Song - Blink 182; (Wedding song, i'll help with that). Good riddance - Green day, etc there are tons of songs out there that are easy to pick up and memorize. I'd just practice chords and learn how to read tablature. If you can't go off of what you hear, definately learn to read tablature, it will help you enormously.

By six-string do you mean acoustic or electric. I find it a crucial difference as there are two different styles (basically.)

I find acoustic (especially Martin or Taylor) to be especially fun. The strings ring out perfectly (with a little tasteful rattle) and the high strings sound very beautiful with six-string cords.

Electric, although is my forte. While I play mainly metal, I think I have a very diverse range of styles. My main focus now is the ability to solo.

Check out some of the stuff I've written as a reference. http://www.myspace.com/thephoenixrisesband

I got an acoustic. I can't wait to play it. My friends have tabs for a whole bunch of simple songs, then I'll learn the notes, and try more difficult songs. Even just fucking around by playing different notes is fun.

Yeah. I just realized I was playing along with every episode of this anime I was watching.

I was just playing little leads and arpeggios but I felt stupid afterwards. Lol.

I've been playing the acoustic for about a month or two straight now that I have one I can keep at the house and have gotten back into the swing of things for the most part, I can play a ton of Red Jumpsuit songs, we've been covering some blink songs for fun, may consider trying more songs pretty soon and eventually putting them on Youtube or something.

It will be up eventually, we played last night for the first time and went well (me and the bro) so we'll see in the future how long it'll take to post up a few things.
