Server Definetions

Core (http://warhammeronline.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_servers)
Core servers are just what you'd expect. These are servers that have everything Warhammer has to offer, with no special changes to the normal ruleset. RvR is confined to lakes and Scenarios, and there are two opposing realms engaged in the WAR. Players may only engage in Player vs. Player combat when flagged to do so in specific areas around the world. Select a Core ruleset server for the original exciting gameplay experience that WAR was designed to offer.

Open RVR (http://warhammeronline.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_servers)
The Open RvR servers feature RvR flagging everywhere except for the Tier 1 Chapter area and the surrounding PvE content. Once players leave this area, they will be flagged for RvR anywhere in the game. Open RvR servers are perfect for those who want to add an extra challenge to their gaming experience. Players must constantly watch their backs or risk attack by enemies everywhere they go! Only members of opposing realms may attack each other; the Open RvR server still focuses on Order versus Destruction.

RP/Open RVR (http://warhammeronline.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_servers)
Any server flagged as Roleplay will follow the same rules as above, but with an additional set of guidelines. These servers are for those players who enjoy truly immersing themselves into the Warhammer lore by acting as their characters' personalities in-game. Players who opt to participate on a Role Playing server must agree to far more specific rules regarding naming, and it is suggested that players would adhere to WAR or high fantasy conduct and behavior.

I played this a bit in the beta and have pre-ordered the game. While it does steal a lot of stuff from WoW, that's not always a bad thing. It has an interesting feel to it and public quests are a blast.

Kazilla
2008-09-14, 06:08 PM
Actually WoW stole alot of things from Warhammer, and Warhammer stole alot of things from Dungeons and Dragons >_<. World of Warcraft was just the first to turn it into a decent MMO (guild wars failed). All further MMO's that don't follow suit will is an attempt in changing the way MMO players game.

I have about five friends included my girlfriend who will be playing this. I will see how they think about a Zelaron guild. Perhaps I can persuade them into joining Zelaron as the guild would be hosted here. Should also result in a show of activity for members looking to join depending on how popular we get.

You're a moron. WoW came out four years before Warhammer. The stuff Warhammer stole is gameplay related. Noone but noone gives a damn about any story/senario similarities.

Kazilla
2008-09-14, 09:55 PM
Without Dungeons and Dragons there would have been no Warhammer, and without Warhammer there would have been no World of Warcraft. To say that World of Warcraft thought of everyone by itself and stole no idea's from anything is absurd. Dungeons and Dragons created multiplayer questing, and roleplaying. Take that away from World of Warcraft and you have nothing.

When I got into the beta I was excited... when I played the beta it all faded away.

I'd stick with wow.

Kazilla

I can't return to WoW... I have since deleted all of my 70's in an attempt to escape its grasps! So, I found refuge in Warhammer ;).

WetWired
2008-09-14, 10:10 PM
Again, you're retarded or blind. Read what I'm saying. World of Warcraft put together the set of gameplay details that resulted in a fun and profitable experience. There were many MMORPGs before WoW, but they did not have all those features. Almost every good feature from WoW has been put in Warhammer. Warhammer gameplay is like WoW's gameplay refined for four years by the devs and mod makers. They've added many good features of their own and from other games, but at the core, the gameplay is a ripoff from WoW. I'm not talking about the things that make it a multiplayer RPG; of course it has those things -- that's what it is.

WetWired
2008-09-14, 10:12 PM
For me it was the opposite. I thought "My friend isn't using his beta account. I'm kind of interested in what it's like." The longer I waited for the download, the less interested I became, but when I actually started playing, I didn't want to stop.

Kazilla
2008-09-14, 11:47 PM
World of Warcraft innovated every aspect of Dungeons and Dragons..

Dungeons and Dragons put together the set of gameplay details that resulted in a fun experience.

Tell me, how can you pretend like WoW came up with this stuff?

WetWired
2008-09-15, 07:05 AM
You can you be so hard headed? We're talking about computer games here. And as a computer game, WoW was very innovative.

Kazilla
2008-09-15, 07:14 AM
I agree it was, but it took what DND created to make WoW. WoW didn't think of anything for itself. Everything in it has come from DND.

DnD was also heavily inspired by fantasy literature before that, this is always a stupid fucking repetitive argument where we measure the imaginative phalli of our favorite game/universe/blah blah.

I'm often the first person to point out Blizzard's habit of blatantly stealing material, but goddamn you must not speak the english or something.

Edit: For something on-topic, I'm mostly of a mind with Sovereign. Played the Beta 6 months ago, shit sucked. Played again about a week ago, was a little better, but still ended up sucking. Mythic's concept of balance is slightly retarded and it's buggier than hell STILL, with it being released what, this week?

So what server are you playing on, Kaz? (Or anyone else that's playing)

Kazilla
2008-09-16, 07:17 AM
DnD was also heavily inspired by fantasy literature
I'm sure it did, however the argument was that WoW stole things from past games. If we were to argue about what DND took from then there would be another whole 12 or so posts on it. What did fantasy literature steal from? That is the question.

So what server are you playing on, Kaz? (Or anyone else that's playing)
I wasn't able to get into beta, so I don't know the current server situation. I'll see if I can google a list in a little bit, ill post and call my buddies see what they are playing on.

~Update, I will most likely be playing on one of the RVR servers. I definetly won't be on the Roleplay however, there is a chance I will make an appearance on a Core server. That all depends how bad the ganking (is that what they call it on WAR?) is.

~Update, I originally planned to create a Goblin Shaman in order to enhance my friends in combat. We all decided on destruction. I'll create a who's playing who up top once I get some feedback. Goblin Shaman is still my idea, however I'm unsure as to which server they are playing on atm. They are big Warhammer fans, and I could actually seeing some of them playing on a RP server. We will see how it goes though.

Which server/faction/class/race are you going to play?

WetWired
2008-09-16, 10:12 AM
I'm going to start with a High Elf Healer/Mage class like I did in beta, so I guess it doesn't matter. I'd do a RvR realm, but I don't think I'll be devoting the time I'd need for that to be viable (I'd need to have a group of people to level with and I'd probably fall behind). You can find a list of realms on the warhammer site under realm status, though it doesn't list types. I'm going to create my characters during lunch today.

Kazilla
2008-09-16, 10:28 AM
I found a site on google that listed each realm along with its type, and then I also found the definitions of each realm. I added them above.

Kazilla
2008-09-16, 09:03 PM
No, I didn't preorder the CE. I got a call from Gamestop tonight saying that my game will be in tomorrow before noon.

WW, do you have any buddies playing with you on your server? I'm not to sure how much my friends will play seeing as they all have families and what not. I might just roll on my own server, although that can get really borring, unless you make some friends.

WetWired
2008-09-16, 09:39 PM
Nope, I don't know anyone else playing. I didn't preorder the Collectors Edition. Normal preorders started playing at 7am today. Getting the normal box tomorrow won't do you much good, either, since the retail key won't work untill Thursday. What you need is the key from the preorder box.

Willkillforfood
2008-09-16, 09:48 PM
That's called a good-ole-fashion shafting. That's bullshit, btw. A bit too much of a reward for preorders, imo.

WetWired
2008-09-16, 10:31 PM
Actually, it's more for their benefit than the customers'. Doing this forces the userbase to come on in stages spreading them out among the lands and improving everyone's experience. It's probably still going to be pretty crowded for the people who pick up the game on Thursday, but it'll still be a lot better than everyone in the same place trying to do the same quests at the same time.

Kazilla
2008-09-16, 10:43 PM
Did you get a chance to experience the "camp" that you get with preorders? I forget its actual name, but it allows you to regenerate health and mana a little bit faster while resting, is it significant at all?

WetWired
2008-09-17, 06:16 AM
The camp has a 60minute cooldown, works in combat, and restores 2% of nearby party members' health every 5 seconds for 5 minutes. It appears as a campfire. It's probably not going to keep you alive on its own, but it could be helpful for boss fights where you'd have a chance to get a lot of healing from it. Not sure if it works indoors. The ring is probably better in the beginning. It gives bonuses to 6-9 stats (It's a level 1 purple). Neither of these items work in PvP, I've heard. The ring will become obsolete once rings become easier to find, and the 60 minute cooldown puts the advantage from the camp on par with the long cooldown engineering items you could make in WoW.

Kazilla
2008-09-17, 07:07 AM

I did preorder the game, and I'm getting the box today. That means I should be able to play today huh?

WetWired
2008-09-17, 09:47 AM
If you didn't get a box when you pre-ordered, you're probably SOL. The pre-order box has the codes for the open beta, the early start, and the items. If you're lucky, you might be able to get one when you pick it up.

Kazilla
2008-09-17, 11:25 PM
Ok so, I'm having some technical issues, what do you think is the problem WW.

[Attempt.1]
I logged in, and durring the loading screen (the one that looks like a book). Warhammer crashed and I was booted out

[Attempt.2]
I logged back in, managed to load the UI up this time. Walked about 10 feet when it happened again. I figured maybe I should just restart my computer.

[Attempt.3]
Got logged in and actually managed to collect some quests, ran around the little starting area and started to kill me some dwarfs. All of a sudden BSOD... Had to restart my computer again.

[Attempt.4]
Tried a different server, had the same result as [Attempt.1], which in theory says that if I try again on my first server I should manage to get even further.

Why is this happening? My computer should be able to handle this game. I don't get it.

To clarify a little bit, the first 2 attempts it kicked me to my desktop. No warning or sudden glitch then kick, just a big`ol boot up my ass...

The BSOD isn't your typical BSOD in that there is no text on this one, My CPU was making a loud noise, a constant hum if you will. And my screen was entirely blue. No text just blue.

New defintion, old problem..

Problem: Computer doesn't like Warhammer..

WetWired
2008-09-18, 05:30 PM
How frequently does this happen? Have you tried windowed mode?

Kazilla
2008-09-18, 05:52 PM
From the time I had installed it to now im going to say about 6 times. 9pm GMT - 5pm GMT.. Im only rank 7 so that should give you an idea of how long I've been playing. As far as frequency goes the

first time was immediate.
second was about 10mins in
third was about an hour in
fourth was immediate (<--tried new server thought maybe mine was unstable or something)
fifth was about 2 hours in
sixth was maybe 30mins

Times are guessed but, approx. The last time i was in windows mode, the game itself ran alot smoother but I still have the CTD (crash to desktop, its what they are calling it) error.

WetWired
2008-09-18, 05:54 PM
Don't know what to tell you, then.

Kazilla
2008-09-18, 06:48 PM

..Oh, Anyway WetWired!!

I found something interesting, I went onto another server and tried it out after logging into my FULL 300+ destruction server and immedetly being CTD'ed. and everything was working fine, I logged out of the Order character I had made and went to change servers when I saw this..

Request Timed Out and it had two options. Exit to loader or Exit to desktop. Do you think there is some way it is overriding decision and just exiting to the desktop?

WetWired
2008-09-18, 07:30 PM
Maybe a keypress?

Kazilla
2008-09-19, 11:47 AM
I think I figured out why I am CTD..

That is durring the opening sequence. Once the game actually started WAR.exe jumped up to 96 to 99% CPU Usage. Using about 100,000 Kb worth of memory... If I understand memory correctly.. then my 1Gb of RAM isn't enough for this game.

My question to you is, would the computer end a funtion that was using all of its memory? Im assuming my computer is closing it because it doesn't have the resources to attend to other functions.

Is upgrading RAM as easy as buying the correct piece and sticking it in?
and
Is upgrading ram going to fix it, or would I have to purchase other things along with it, like a video card or something?

WetWired
2008-09-19, 04:39 PM
A program may end suddenly if it is unable to allocate memory, though this would be dependant on both your physical and virtual memory.

Kazilla
2008-09-19, 07:37 PM
I'm not sure whether you were asking me what mine were but, this is what I have..

Virtual Memory: 1536 MB
Physical Memory: 1 GB

Anything I can do?

WetWired
2008-09-19, 10:16 PM
You should have more virtual memory than that.

WetWired

Are you low on HD space?

Kazilla
2008-09-20, 04:59 AM
I have about 15 GB left on my 70 Gig HD.

WetWired
2008-09-20, 11:40 AM
I'd say first, try turning off your anti-virus. Second, buy more physical memory. Looking at it again, it seems that windows recommends 150% of your physical memory as your virtual memory size, whereas I've always set it at 200% fixed in a contiguous block on my HD (with a variable size page file, as your HD fills up, your page file becomes more fragmented and this reduces performance).

WetWired, do you play this laggy? That is about how I play.. some of the comments also was wondering, if I got another Gig of RAM would wit be alot smoother?

WetWired
2008-09-25, 05:02 PM
In general, my experience is lag free (though I do have a problem where pathing NPCs show up where they'll end up before they get there, I don't think that's actually lag). I do have loading freezeups, however. The guy in the video had lag as well as a system problem. I am no expert in diagnosing the source of slowdown. I'd say if your HD light is blinking contantly while you're playing, you could benefit from more RAM. Otherwise, your issue is elsewhere.

My issue is clearly with viewing areas that are not precached, mostly when I quickly change camera direction.

Kazilla
2008-09-25, 05:41 PM
I'll watch for my HD light next time I start up. If I am roaming on a path camera straight and just running it's smooth as butter, otherwise it gets pretty choppy like the guy above.

Oh and Warhammer took all the best ideas from other succesful online games took make its own game. And previous games took the best ideas from previous games that took the best ideas from previous games.

As long as they also have their own ideas as well as good ideas from other games there should be no arguing about it.

It's not so much arguing as trying to inform the idiots that Warhammer didn't steal shit from WoW. Fkn WoW fan boys.

I think you're the fan boy if you're too blind to see that clearly when they started development, they went down the list of features in every MMO on the market and decided whether it made sense for their game. The reason they used so many features existant in WoW is because it obviously got a lot of things right. The fact of the matter is that if you've played WoW there's little adjustment needed to play War.

I agree with that statement. When you have a good basic shell (ie. Wow's UserInterface) you keep it. GuildWars even has some stuff that WoW doesn't. But What I am argueing is that World of Warcraft didn't think to put Dwarf's against Orc's. Nor did they think to incorporate quests, and pvp. Nor did they incorporate anything MMO. All they did was for the first time create an eye pleasing experience, when before it was all your imagination.

So, WetWired.. I finally figured out why my character was so under leveled. Playing GuildWars for so long followed by a few years of World of Warcraft, you get into the habit of questing for levels, pvp is just a time eater when it comes to leveling. You usually avoid it all together. I read some posts on warhammeralliance.com and found out how wrong I was actually playing this game. I knew that WAR was going to be rvr based, I guess I just didnt understand the concept.

How to correctly play Warhammer Online:
1) From the get-go, Queue for a scenario.
2) While waiting for queue, collect, finish, and turn in any and all quests.
3) Join Scenario, rvr to your hearts content.
4) Leave queue, re-queue. Collect, complete, and turn in any and all quests.
5) Join Scenatio, rvr to your hearts content.
::rinse lather and repeat::

I've started a new Chosen Chaos on the server Bretonnia (the one my friends are all on). So far I am level 8, rank 8 and in chapter 2. I've collected over 1 gold so far, and have finished my PQ's. Honestly this is how the game was meant to be played. If you only quest you will end up like my shaman,.. underleveled.

At this point, I'm waiting for rank 20 before I do any more RvR. Too far from the warcamp to be traveling on foot. The rewards before level 20 really aren't all that great, anyway.
