View Full Version : Leveling Jewelcrafting is fucking expensive

So I just train a character from 0 to 300 in jewelcrafting, and it probably costed about 500g in materials, not counting the hours of mining metals I somehow haven't managed to stockpile enough of over the years I've been playing the game.
In short: Leveling JC is freaking expensive. Carefully consider the cost and reward first.
Unfortunately for me, I just wanted convenient access to a gem cutter. I think I could have bought all the gems I'd ever need cut instead...

I've got my epic flyer on my paladin, so farming ore / cutting gems has become really profitable for me. On an average day off I end up putting some 400g worth of stuf on the ah.

You can make 250g+ a day with dailies. Nothing in WoW is expensive.

Yeah, my Rogue is an Enchanter/Jewelcrafter. All kinds of expensive...

Enchanting is a freaking gold mine though. I never enchanted stuff, other than to level it. Disenchanting and selling the mats makes so much money.

Eh, I had to save most of my disenchanted mats for when I got new equipment on my characters. =P
So it's probably saved me a bunch of gold by now.

If you've never enchanted stuff except to level enchanting, you're stupid or low level. The enchanter-only ring enchants are cheap and useful.

I mostly levelled Enchanting because I know how much of a bitch it is to find an enchanter half the time. Too bad I can't enchant my other characters' gear, so my problem continues unabated.

While that's literally what I meant, it isn't what I meant.
My point was that if you're planning on making money with enchanting, don't expect to do it by enchanting gear. Of course I enchanted my own gear occasionally.
And yes, I know that you can make money by enchanting for other people. However, when you factor in the time and money it takes you to get the recipes that make money, as well as the time you spend peddling your enchants, it's really not worth it compared to simply disenchanting and sticking mats on the AH.

Yeah, I didn't pick up enchanting to make money, I picked it up to help out guildies. The fact that I can occasionally make a few gold off it is just bonus.

I recently made a char and had mining on him cuz it is a really good way to make money at a low level. Now I might pick up enchanting if you say it is that good.

Enchanting is great if you want to make money from disenchanting. Making money from enchanting things is not quite as good, in my opinion, but it's a useful skill to have to enchant your own gear.
Mining makes KILLER money at higher levels, BTW. A single stack of adamantite ore sells for 30g on my server. On top of that, you get motes and such as well, which often sell for ~2-3g a piece.

On my server, I can sell 10 copper bars for 10 silver a piece easy. I can also sell the rough stones for around 1 silver a piece and I am just level 9. I have around 10G.

The economy on his server must be messed up. Fel iron ore on my server is ~10g. It takes like 10 minutes to get a full stack.

Why would you want to know? Going to a server where the value of gold is next-to-nothing doesn't sound like much fun to me. Sure, that's good when you're wanting to buy your mount, your epic mount, or anything like that from a vendor, but any time you want to buy anything on the auction house, you would be paying a shitton for it.

that is so true, people are trying to liquidate the economy on that server, a whole bunch of people are selling there mats crazy cheap. lol everyone complains all the time.

I have Mining/Herb on my Rogue. On Dalaran a stack of Peacebloom runs at like...20s a stack.
I sell Deviate Delights to make quick money. The recipe costs about 250g, and I can sell a stack of 5 for 6g.

I like collection skills, they are just big money in the first place because you have control over the entire economy due to the fact that you are selling the most basic ingredients.

I knew a jewelcrafter that made a few thousand gold a week from doing no mining of his own.

How did he do that?
