The Phoenix landed on Mars today. That is good news. Nasa's site lists four main goals for Phoenix:

--Determine whether Life ever arose on Mars

--Characterize the Climate of Mars

--Characterize the Geology of Mars

--Prepare for Human Exploration

Follow the mission here (http://www.nasa.gov/missions/current/index.html).

Here is one of the first images from Phoenix showing the Martian terrain and horizon.

More images here (http://phoenix.lpl.arizona.edu/images.php?gID=0&cID=8). Not the eerily "340" shaped UFO at the top. Also, note that they already have what appears to be a Starbuck's on Mars:

It's good to see those pics. Thanks for posting them!

I watched the landing on the Science channel last night. It was pretty intense, but I was dissappointed to hear I had to wait 2 hours to see pictures sent back.

Woot Woot!! The terrain isn't what I had expected. I expected it to be way more hilly, don't know why. It would be awesome if it got a snapshot of a skull.

They purposely landed it in a relatively boring spot hoping to avoid any mishaps.

I wonder if the ice on Mars is so frozen over that you can't slip on it.
