He's a bible thumper with no education on it, or evolution. He told us he's 11, ..i'd leave him alone. Let him learn shit on his own.

The only reason I posted this thread was to see how many people thought he was 'Odd'. If all 11 year olds act like this...We're fucking screwed.
Meh, I'd say most 11 year olds are considered morons or weird.

True, And I made this thread without the Knowledge of him being 11. However, Still doesn't change the fact he is practically brainwashed. But, hey, His religion, his choice.
Demosthenes
2008-05-28, 07:35 AM
his choice.
No, no...his parent's choice.
I'd say that athiests and people who don't believe in God are equally as abusive and worthless to this society as people that are bible thumpers. Both sides of the spectrum suck.

Aaah...Very True. I luckily have the type of parents who Support whatever path it is I choose.
No, no...his parent's choice.
Alright Dawkins, not everybody that is raised on religion is bad, and MOST kids including Dawkins learned to think for themselves or even away from it (being religion). Most parents just want their kids to live a better life and think that religion is the easiest way for them to learn courtesy along with manners, etc.

Manners..."BELIEVE OR SUFFER AN ETERNITY IN HELL!!! WHERE YOUR TORTURED FOREVER!!! BUT HE STILL LOVES YOU!!"
Demosthenes

equally as abusive
Abusive wouldn't be the word I'd use, but it's long overdue.
We never heard that, we just were always told if you live a bad life, aren't honest and break the "10 commandments" then you can possibly go to hell...
Abusive wouldn't be the word I'd use, but it's long overdue.
Really? Long overdue huh? What do you just want to wipe out everybody with a faith in religion? Is religion a threat to you? People aren't in agreeance with you must be wrong, right? Even though science is so far along and only has skimmed the surface of anything in our existance, anybody who thinks otherwise must be wrong, correct?

Eh, One of my cousins told me that. I told him I was a buddhist. He went off on a tyrade on how I'm going to hell for not accepting the true god, etc etc.

Of course not, it is the phenomenon of religion itself that I would like to kill, not it's followers.
and MOST kids including Dawkins learned to think for themselves
Dawkins was lucky enough to grow up in a secular household.
Even so, some do learn to think for themselves. And that's great. Doesn't mean that blind proselytization is a good thing.
Most parents just want their kids to live a better life and think that religion is the easiest way for them to learn courtesy along with manners, etc.
Ahh. So religion acts as a substitute for good parenting?
I wish more people would think the way I do. I guess the people like me would be considered agnostic, somewhat. However, I still fully believe in God, I just don't agree with organized religion, for the most part. We can debate this forever and both sides would stick to their guns for the most part.

Read above post.
Is religion a threat to you?
Read My Objection to Relgion.
People aren't in agreeance with you must be wrong, right?
Correct.
Even though science is so far along and only has skimmed the surface of anything in our existance, anybody who thinks otherwise must be wrong, correct?
In most cases.

Meh, To be honest, If someone is following a Religion, and they can be shaken from that religion by the words of others, In my opinion, wasn't a true Follower of the Religion in question.
Of course not, it is the phenomenon of religion itself that I would like to kill, not it's followers.
I think it's great that scientists want to establish our existance as proof and fact to as where it came from, however until that point peoople such as myself are still going to believe what they feel is correct, and what would make sense to them.
Even so, some do learn to think for themselves. And that's great. Doesn't mean that blind proselytization is a good thing.
Some would argue that athiests follow this same aspect.
Ahh. So religion acts as a substitute for good parenting?
No, but it helps. I'd say that 8/10 Jesus kids that are thoroughly complacent in the church are going to grow up and be better citizens than the normal kid that isn't. When I was a kid, we were enrolled in this program called "CCD". It was every wednesday for an hour, and basically they would just read bible stories and talk about being positive in your life (maybe like 3rd-4th grade). I don't honestly see why a religion that preaches being positive and respecting one another, is a bad thing and should be destroyed.

Well, what do you expect? First it was "prove where humans came from." Then it became "prove where life came from." Then it became, "OH OH YOU PROVED IT *puts fingers in ears* NAHH NAHH NAHH NAHH NAHH CAN'T HERE YOU!" Now it's "prove where matter came from." Science is a never-ending endeavor. The place for God, however, keeps shrinking as science keeps expanding.
Some would argue that athiests follow this same aspect.
That word "blindly" that you bolded was they key-word in there. Going with the evidence is not the same as blind proselytizing. And learn the difference between discourse and proselytizing. There are two methods to handle differences -- through discourse, or through violence. Are you seriously complaining that we picked the former??
No, but it helps. I'd say that 8/10 Jesus kids that are thoroughly complacent in the church are going to grow up and be better citizens than the normal kid that isn't.
Actually, there is evidence to this, and it is to the contrary.

1.) Because there is no truth value.
2.) Very strong cases can be made that the Abrahamic religions preach no such thing.
And you were a flaming bigot when you first came to this forum! Everyone on here displays a personality that isn't true to what they honestly believe.

Badda bing, just worded it oddly.
