View Full Version : Deal of the Day
I figured this would be a way to drum up activity and maybe help out you guys a little. I'm going to try and post one deal a day that I see on those online deal sites that looks extra-scrumptious. No referrals or stuff like that involved, of course. Most of these deals are one-day or expire as soon as they sell out, so you may have to act quick.
If you tell me what kind of thing you're looking for I'll keep an eye out for you.
First up: PCI Express Videocards
Newegg (http://slickdeals.net/?sduid=47603&t=&u2=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?nm_mc=AFC-SlickDeals&cm_mmc=AFC-SlickDeals-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA&Item=14-130-082) has EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card for $145 - $30 Rebate (http://slickdeals.net/?sduid=47603&t=&u2=http://images10.newegg.com/uploadfilesfornewegg/rebate/SH/EVGA10MIRsMar01Mar3108lh15.pdf) [Fillable Form (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=10714763&postcount=30)] = $115 + $7 shipping = $122.
Alternatively, they have eVGA 8800GTS OC 512MB PCI-Express Video Card (http://slickdeals.net/?sduid=47603&t=&u2=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?nm_mc=AFC-SlickDeals&cm_mmc=AFC-SlickDeals-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA&Item=N82E16814130325&CMP=AFC-C8Junction) for $260 - $30 (with code EVGAN841) = $230 - $30 Rebate (http://slickdeals.net/?pno=12045&lno=2&afsrc=1) [Fillable Form (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=10714763&postcount=30)] = $200 + $7 shipping = $207.
The next lowest on Pricegrabber is $240 after Rebate.
Also going on today: a Woot-off. www.woot.com is a site that usually sells one product per day, but occasionally they sell many items until sold out, at which point a new item comes up for sale instantly. You can catch some good/random deals. If you like window shopping then it can be fun to see what's available.

Good thread. I like looking at the one product per day sites sometimes, also I have been thinking about purchasing a high end 939 cpu and pcie video to go with it sometime soon. 939 is definitly on its way out but I want to stretch this machine out atleast untill next winter hopefully spending less than $350
I found this. (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?SID=585857-2-0-ARTICLE-0&Item=N82E16819103037&ATT=19-103-037&CMP=OTC-dealram) Has free shipping and if you're interested, can add 2GB of fairly solid DDR ram for about $55 as a "combo deal." It's OEM, so you'll need to provide your own fan.

I have not looked at any performance information since I bought my
AMD643500 for well over $200, I could use the ram too, because I have 2gb but over 4 sticks and running at 333 instead of 400, it'd be nice to get that 67mhz I supose, but I think I could spring for atleast $120 on a cpu if nessicary to max out my machine potential.
Friday March 28th: Wireless Routers from dealnews.com
Walmart.com offers the Linksys WRH54G 802.11g Wireless Router (http://dealnews.com/lw/artclick.html?2,220237,603608) for $34.87. With 97 cents for shipping, it's the lowest total price we could find by $8. Sales tax is added where applicable. This 4-port router features WPA2 protection and supports VPN pass-through. Other wireless router deals are available at Walmart.com:
* Netgear WGR614 802.11g Wireless Router (http://dealnews.com/lw/artclick.html?2,220237,603609) for $39.27 + $7 s&h
* Linksys WRT54G 802.11g Wireless Router (http://dealnews.com/lw/artclick.html?2,220237,603610) for $44.97 + $7 s&h
* Linksys 802.11g Wireless Router with SRX200 (http://dealnews.com/lw/artclick.html?2,220237,603611) for $49.97 + $1 s&h
Use these to set up a wireless network in your home, I know three people who have bought ~$40-50 routers from walmart and they work fine for using laptops around the house and such.
That's awesome Grav, good work man. You should do me a favor and include laptops in one of your Deals of the Day..
With Vista, there's a program on there (I forgot what it's called) where you can add a Jump/Flash drive and instantly add to your systems ram, it's fucking amazing it uses the 2.0 USB port and uses it just like it would regular ram, i'm going either today or this weekened sometime and getting a 2gig+ stick, and testing it out. It's an amazing feature that alone may convince me to keep Vista.

ReadyBoost.
---
That's a very good price for the first Linksys router.
What brand in particular? The ones I see most often are Dell, Acer, and Lenovo (Thinkpads). Sometimes Toshiba, HP, and Sony VAIO. How much do you want to spend and what are you looking for in a laptop?
I'm also in the market for a laptop.. but I'm looking for a cheap one (100-150) that essentially just has wi-fi and can handle basic tasks.
I've already got a laptop, but I'm looking to upgrade. In the other thread I think I may have posted the model #, I am wanting to upgade bits and peices but doing it slowly.

Do you think the Linksys WRH54G 802.11g Wireless Router would work with Xbox live? Anybody have any firsthand experience with it? I went to the Xbox site and I don't see that particular one anywhere. I'm going to be setting up Live this weekend/next week (my laptop is FINALLY fixed, woohoo), so I'm going to need a reliable router. I'd prefer wireless but it's not a must.
It all depends on the letter at the end of the router, as that one you listed is a "g" model. If any of the "g's" work then that one should, I'm not familiar with Xbox360, but all routers are basically the same, and it shold work just fine.

It's also not incredibly fast memory.
It's fine for common applications. Laptops are not usually set up for gaming.

I honestly don't know. I haven't kept up on PC upgrading since I got a laptop two years ago.
